putting on a duvet cover

You lot probably know this trick for an easy way to change duvet covers, but I've only just discovered it - so much simpler than the weekly fight I usually have. smile

I'm planning to try this, having always used the reaching inside to the top corners, holding the duvet, and shaking it all into place method. The other reason I always wash the covers inside-out is that if you get a rogue sock trapped inside, which often seems to happen even if you pop the poppers, at least they fall out when you turn the covers the right way out again. smile

My mother used to call her duvet her 'cloud' because of the way it enveloped her. I didn't like to point out that clouds were damp.

@Tudorrose - oh no! The English flat-sheet-under-the-duvet 'method' (my brother is just as bad). The point is, the duvet can't do its job like that.
With that sheet over your body, tucked in at the sides, you create a sort of cooling tube down either side of the bod. Take away the sheet, and the duvet is designed to wrap itself close to your side - lovely and warm!

Oh, and I do it the other way round. Open edge at the top of the bed, so I can stand at the bottom and roll it up without walking round all the time. Then turn it round to the illustrated way once it's rolled and secure before unrolling it.

I've been using this method for a while now and have improved with practice. For me it's good as it means I don't have to lift the duvet above shoulder height.

If the instructions don't make sense Google the burrito method of changing a duvet, there's lots of UTube demos.

I fear I still love the old-fashioned thick blankets and eidowdone. So when it gets too hot in the summer one can always take one off. But my thin eidowdone is now many years old so I would like to get a new one, if they know what it is noiwadays! Does anyone know what I mean and know where I can get a new one?

I tried this new method and it works well. More walking round the bed, but you never have to cope with the whole bulk and weight of a king-size duvet all at once.

looks fab. Have been doing the inside out cover lay on top of duvet then put hands into cover and grab far corners of duvet and flip over works quite well.

Trying this tomorrow morning, what a find, thank you.

Blinko Fri 18-Dec-15 14:48:30

A-May-Zing!! I'll definitely be giving this a go. Thanks for posting.

Elegran Fri 18-Dec-15 13:48:32

Tell her to peel it of the duvet to wash so that it is inside out, and then to resist the temptation to turn it right way in once it is dry. That may look nicer in the airing cupboard but it saves time and temper if it is wrong way in.

SueDonim Fri 18-Dec-15 13:30:30

Apparently, my older duaghter has been using this rolling method for some time. However, it also explains her frequent complaints of how she has had near-death experiences by getting stuck in her duvet cover, when she tries to turn it inside out! grin

witchygran Fri 18-Dec-15 12:50:25

I tried that one, it worked well with a single duvet but I had trouble with the king size. Really needed two of us for that. The method I use for the king size is to put the top of the duvet to the top end of the cover and peg it in with about 6 clothes pegs. Then I simply shake the duvet into the cover.

Gaggi3 Fri 18-Dec-15 12:11:25

It's not the walking I mind it's coping with the duvet fighting back so will definitely try this, after watching the video another couple of times! Thank you.

Juggernaut Fri 18-Dec-15 11:00:51

I use the turn the cover inside out, pop top corners of duvet in, lift and shake method and I'm sticking with it!
We have a superking bed and I can't be bothered with the distance I'd have to walk doing it this way!

missdeke Fri 18-Dec-15 10:58:44

is it just me or is there anybody else who can't see the instructions? Would love to know how to do this as I do seem to be completely useless at this even after practising for over 40 years!!!

princesse Fri 18-Dec-15 10:38:52

Oh my goodness! Amazing! Thank you!

Tudorrose Fri 18-Dec-15 10:34:50

I use a flat sheet under the duvet then it doesn't need changing so often. Also it saves the cover from fading from frequent washing

GrandmaH Fri 18-Dec-15 10:25:51

I attach reply from DH when he got my mail :-

'This isn’t much fun – at what point do you climb into the quilt cover spin the quilt and get it 90 degrees skewed ??'

I rest my case!

GrandmaH Fri 18-Dec-15 10:24:04

What's wrong with stating with shorter side-putting one end in- clamping the corner under your arm- doing the other side & then just shaking it out- works for me very time & takes a faction of the time this method does.
Mind you I will send this to DH as it is painful watching him try to get a cover on & men like a 'method'.

Lyndie Fri 18-Dec-15 10:17:08

Thank you. I have arthritic fingers and it's usually painful changing duvets and I have a B and B so do loads. Going to try it. smile

Harlequin Fri 18-Dec-15 10:04:21

This method is brilliant. You just have to remember to lay the inside-out cover on the bed, cover it with the duvet and then roll, as tightly as you can, from the closed end.
Because I have pain in my arms and shoulders the other method, reaching inside and then shaking the cover out, is just impossible so quite happy to walk around the bed.
And if you rotate the cover and roll it across the bed, rather than up and down, it's even easier. I found a demo of this on Youtube a few years ago and have used it ever since.

alternativeageing Fri 18-Dec-15 09:35:07

OMG that I have never seen and can't wait to try it! Thank you. And Happy Christmas! x

Stansgran Fri 18-Dec-15 08:41:29

I use the giant pegs for the corners.

GranU Fri 18-Dec-15 08:04:08

Wow! But gopping bed linen. Don't think I could sleep with that much pattern!
