Workmen!

Yes, I know that I got it for free, which is a relief. And I am grateful. This house is warm enough, I had the covers off my bed last night and no heating on, in January! So goodness knows how hot it will be now with insulation wrapping us up. Beware for reports of a naked woman roaming the streets on the news!

I've calmed down a bit now. The housing officer phoned me back and has arranged for the rubbish to be collected, and reported the workmen for going around the house turning off the heating, going to the toilet (I think, the bar was across when we don't use it). They should have asked if they wanted to do things outside their contracted work. She also agreed that they should have emptied it before we came in.

Anyway I had a lovely shower when they had gone, had a sleep and have watched my soaps. I am now looking up hotels/b and b's for if I decide to go and stay near my son when he moves away to university, Devon or Wales from near Manchester. He is not happy, he thought he was getting away from me! he he

I am surprised that the housing people left stuff in the attic before they rented it out after all in this day and age it could have been anything at all up there and it is their responsibility to clear it. That being so it certainly wasn't your responsibility to clear it out.
Being a fairly 'straight from the shoulder' sort of bod I would like to think that I would have told the housing people so and have made them deal with it so that their contractors could get on. After all it is no skin off your nose to tell them so and not your problem either.

It is unsettling to have people in the house but do look on the bright side as at least you aren't having to pay the bill!

As it's social housing, I'd have expected the local authority or housing association to have inspected and cleared out the house before letting it to new tenants. No, I never feel uncomfortable about having men (or women) in to do necessary work, but it didn't take that long for my insulation to be installed and the workmen never complained about the stuff that was up there, because they could see that there was no way I could move it myself.

Make sure they haven't left behind a picture or vase which you could take to the Antiques Road Show before you chuck it rubylady!

No, it's not on they should have cleared out their rubbish before they left. Tell your DS to wear thick gardening gloves - you don't want other people's crap rubbish around. Will the Council collect it?

As for workmen, don't get me started, I should be trying to find one to put right what the other one messed up last week, not be on GN.
and, no, I don't want the first one back here again.

Sorry, the men who came were complaining there was still stuff left in the attic. I now have bags of rubbish which are not mine, but from former tenants, which we cleared out. I am not going to let my son carry on clearing other people's stuff out when he had cut his hand on broken glass left behind by someone else.
