Can anyone recommend a small electric grater,I am finding it difficult to use an ordinary grater due to my rheumatoid arthritis playing silly beggars with my hands.Got my soup maker after seeing a recent thread and absolutely love it,will mainly be used for grating cheese, carrots etc.Had a look on Amazon etc but just wondered if anyone on here one they could recommend .

Ds has a small electric chopper (Kenwood I think!) I'll try to find it and do a link.

I'll be interested in replies to this thread, too, in my case it's because of a mixture of arthritis and loss of strength in my right hand because of a trapped nerve that went undiagnosed for a long time.

Kittylester: The thought of your DS's small electric chopper has made me laugh, for some reason. My smutty mind, maybe! grin

I'm another one who would be grateful (wink) for ideas on this.
I have a small machine which grates vegetables
www.amazon.co.uk/Tefal-Fresh-Express-150-Watt/dp/B00ABBR4S4/ref=dp_ob_title_kitchen
It works very well, but I'm looking for an easier way to grate lemon rind and suchlike, hands not so strong now.

I wouldn't recommend the one that I've got. It makes a terrible noise and is not very effective, and leaves no end of gunge unshredded between the grating cylinder and the casing.

Perhaps it's not available in the UK though, in which case you're not in danger of buying it. It's called a CASO MR3X Acide Etched. Can't find anything in English about it, but it may be sold under a different name in the UK.

I've got the little kenwood recommended by Delia but it smashes things rather than grating. It fine for soups which will be blended eventually but it's noisy.

Here's the same thing as in my post above, but cheaper:

I used to have one of the Tefal Fresh Express graters, but found I wasn't using it as it was a bit of a faff to get it out of the cupboard and set up.. The tool I use these days for grating and zesting is a microplane. It is so sharp that barely any pressure is needed. You can either rasp it against the cheese/lemon or rub the item against it.

That's the one I was considering buying Tricia, does it grate cheese easily ?.

I did see these on Ebay, but pressure has to be applied to close the grater against the cheese as it works.

Scooter58 - according to the booklet it grates hard cheese like parmesan, and soft like gruyère.
I've only used it to shred raw vegetables, and it works well with those.
Shysal Thanks for the suggestion of the microplane, I'll try to get it.
