Housework game changer

I have recently become the proud owner of one of those robotic vacuums. I hate vacuuming even more than dusting, lazy sod that I am. It is a miracle worker. I clear the floor of grandchild debris, press a button, leave the room and by the time I come back all the crumbs and dust have been sucked up. All I have to do then is clear the filter. The one I chose was under a hundred pounds too so I don't think you need to spend a fortune. It's early days (about 2 weeks now) but what a gloriously decadent few time grin. I've been known to drink my cup of tea, feet up, just watching my little wonder machine works its magic.

When my old dyson packs up, I will be buying one of those cordless Gtech ram vacuums. I have had good reports about them.
It will be lovely not having to lug the heavy dyson up and down the stairs.

The Roomba vacuums - that is what it is for. It is a vacuum cleaner. If it just dusted, then there wold be nothing to empty after it has done its thing. It is far mire efficient than an ordinary vacuum - and better for your back!

I have a cordless AEG with a built in hand vacuum built into it. DDs bought it for me one Christmas (they always buy useful presents: Black and Decker, drill bits, rawlplugs, slow cooker etc) and it's really useful. They were concerned about me cleaning the stairs with good old Henry in case he toppled over and knocked me downstairs but I find the hand held attachment does not have a strong enough suction for the stairs. It needs very regular emptying but it's really useful for a whizz round.

I would love to try one, if only to see how the cats reacted to it!grin

I think there is a video on YouTube of a cat sitting on one and seemingly enjoying the ride, don't know how to do links from the Hudl

phoenix your boys would not like it because they would not be able to work out which direction it was going in next. The machine can also be a bit noisy- I think that it would frighten them.

Has anyone come across a quiet boiling kettle. I am fed up having to turn up the radio, or indeed my voice, when the kettle is boiling. They seem to all start fairly quiet when new but soon increase the noise level. Please help!!

In the first clip the cat seems to actually turn it on to start his ride!

another vote here for the gtech - its fabulous, does upstairs and down, fine to carry up the stairs. i was impressed at how thorughly it sucked up the animals' fur, which seemed to be a permanent feature of my home before i got this!

One thing I love about my Dyson is that when it goes wrong you can ring Dyson who will tell you exactly what to do to get it going again. It is built like Meccano, so if anything breaks they just send a spare part and it all slots together. My battery lasts for 16 minutes and that's all I want to do in one go. Thoroughly recommend it.

I hoovered the whole house with my quite heavy Miele this morning, whilst I was having my sugar rush. Very good workout it was too.

Thinking of buying one for the cat to ride on.

I have a Dyson cordless. They are light to carry upstairs and do an incredible job of picking up crumbs and hairs etc. They will pick up on hard floors too.I thoroughly recommend.

I want one.

I love my dyson but have been thinking of getting a cordless one but we only have carpets upstairs so undecided at the moment.

I would like a robotic cleaner that would remove DH, cat, dog and GCs for the day, then Hoover the floors (all hard floors downstairs) and then WASH and dry them. There is so much mud being trawled in continuously this winter that I have almost given up trying. sad

trisher Sun 06-Mar-16 09:29:17

I want one that climbs the walls to do the skirting board and picture rail and does the cushions on the sofa (managing to sort out the pens/coins/socks that are down the edges). Is that too much to ask?
Just got a Dyson rechargeable- brilliant so easy to do the stairs.

What is this robot phobia? There's nothing not to like - feet up with a cup of tea while it does all the had work! smile

etheltbags1 Sun 06-Mar-16 20:50:55

I love my dyson 'stick' vacuum cleaner, I have an old 'animal' dyson for the heavy work in the living room (2 cats means heavy work), I have a dyson cylinder for upstairs and my stick for the rest. I just love dysons, they are not expensive compared to to other brand leaders and they last for ages.

Ana Sun 06-Mar-16 21:05:13

I don't know about 'robot phobia', but what's the point in having a vacuum cleaner that doesn't get into all the nooks and crannies? And if it's only effective on hard floors it wouldn't do for me.

I bought a vax, supposedly lightweight, vacuum cleaner, after becoming frustrated with it (it was too heavy) I decided to go for the GTech Air ram, best thing I ever did, picks up pet hair, grandchildren debris, dust, etc etc with no trouble, lightweight and the battery never runs out when I'm cleaning, only charge it now and again too.

Charleygirl Fri 25-Mar-16 15:09:27

I looked on Amazon for a Roomba type and found one well under £100, had good reviews and also at least 4 stars. As said before, it works a treat. I have laminate flooring upstairs and down with no rugs so that probably helps it get around. I cannot remember what the recharge time is but it cleans the house without recharging in between.

Jalima Fri 25-Mar-16 15:42:22

Mine gets into nooks and crannies with its little brush Ana

And it is good for going round every day instead of getting out the big vacuum cleaner which only comes out once a week!

Charleygirl Fri 25-Mar-16 15:44:22

I quite agree Jalima

Jalima Fri 25-Mar-16 15:44:41

However, I do wish I had bought the Dyson stick one like yours, ethel, I got a rechargeable handheld one instead, good for the stairs and for quick pick-up of bits and crumbs but the stick one looks great.

I wonder if I can buy a stick to fit it?

If all the doors downstairs were left open, would it find it`s way into each room on it`s own? If so, then I could be tempted.
