Soft close toilet seats

Thats why i dont close it or flush in the night so as not to wake H . Obviously I'll have tp get a soft close one now! I do close when there are solids (sorry) to flush away because of germs in fine droplets etc.

try googling it Bluesmum you can usually find all sorts of 'how to' videos on utube or similar.

I have two soft close toilets, both the lids and the seats soft close. One is in the guest bathroom and has had very little use over 5 years and is working perfectly still. The other, in the downstairs cloakroom gets lots and lots of use and no longer soft closes. I am reliably informed they can be adjusted but I need to get around to enlisting the help of an expert/plumber/installer as the fittings are all concealed and I cannot see anything to adjust anywhere! Cannot get used to the clatter of the lid banging down!

And I've never heard of a soft close seat!

My husband is much tidier than me and always closes the lid even in the night. ( i leave it up) Which is annoying as i have to remember to lift it before sitting. He also never drops clothes on the floor but hangs them up, folds them neatly on his bedside chair for tomorrow or puts them in rhe washing basket. It's illogical I know but it drives me mad! He goes round the house shutting drawers after me too.

I always close the lid before flushing but then find I have to polish underside of lid because of water splashes. It's a hard life!

I too always close the lid before flushing - the soft close one downstairs I push down and then forget and push the one upstairs and make a hell of a clatter! I must be the only person I know (unless there's anyone brave enough to admit on here) I never sit on a toilet seat - even in my own home. I always, always wipe the pan before using it so get through a lot of loo rolls. I've done this for years - I can't remember why but think it was something to do with the noise in a small house

i always close the lid on my loo - and i trained my partner to do the same [and he still does after over 10 years].

my daughter and grandaughters live with me now and the loo lid is closed - well most of the time as my younger grandaughter tends to leave it up when she goes before going to bed - and if she gets up in the middle of the night.

i was told it's all down to feng shui - if the lid is up then it's not good - down however is good. can't remember the reason now but i still put the lid down as it looks tidier!!

and, yes, i've also sat on the lid in the middle of the night - talk about rude awakening!

We've two soft close seats from B&Q at least 10 years ago I'd say and both still working as they should. We always close the lid before flushing so they get lots of use too.

I always close the lid before flushing, after reading that flushing sprays invisible droplets and germs up to 2 metres from the toilet. I have a Tiny bathroom cum toilet and the bathroom cabinet (containing my toothbrush) is uncomfortably close to the toilet and there is nowhere else to put it.

Ok Jinglebells I admit it ... 50+ years ago, as a teenager, I went on a training course in London and was "accommodated" in a private house. I got up for a wee in the night (yes, even at 17 ) and forgot to lift the lid. To my horror I wee'd on the fluffy toilet seat cover. Tried to rinse/dry it off but failed miserably. Subject never brought up so didn't admit it was me .

Yes, Lona, I heard about closing the lid on the loo years ago when it was explained that the flush creates an aerosol spray of all the bacteria from the WC pan that can travel up to 20 feet — that's a big bathroom! Since then, I always close the lid. And that makes me wonder if soft close works fast enough to stop this spray spreading. Haven't used a soft close, so no experience. But I prefer to think of my toothbrush staying clean !

Ours came from Bathstore and lasted about 7 months before giving up the soft close bit. Annoying, because the fitter screwed it on so tight we haven't managed to remove it yet, so lots of banging.

NEVER, To my mind, it's perfectly reasonable not flushing after just urine. As you say, it's sterile. And if you've got a septic tank the best thing to do.

Can never understand why tv programmes like Escape to the Country don't check the loo lids. "Here is the luxury end suite and it was last used by a man"! The nation does not wish to know and it kills the desired pristine look.

When my DSs were young, I decided that we should ALL close the lid. After all, it just meant that some [the chaps] had to open the lid and the seat, and the others [the girls] had to just lift the lid. Everyone had to lift something...

I also think it is unattractive to see down the loo pan, rahter than a slightly more aesthetic lid!

No one I know leaves the lid down either ...
Will you judge me as a total slut when I tell you that if DH or I have a wee in the middle of the night we don't flush?Only when we are alone in the house ,obviously .I do have some standards .Given that urine is sterile and you could drink it in extremis I don't have a problem with this .the loo is separate from the bathroom .More to do with not waking the other than saving water ,though now we have a meter.......I don't put the light on either .The loo is immediately opposite our bedroom door ,though across the landing .DH is trained to put the seat down .
We have a soft close on our downstairs loo but as it's rarely used I expect it to see us out .I think it is B and Q

I keep my toothbrush in the bathroom cabinet and the toilet lid firmly down! Lots of germs in bathrooms apparently.
Other than that germs don't bother me at all #muckypup!

Fend shui - close the toilet lid or all your wealth will go down the pan!

Just to add to the confusion, I have never understood the paranoia about men putting the seat down after using the loo, at least if it's already up when you go to use it then
they haven't 'sprinkled' on it!

I have never put a toilet lid down, nor replaced a toilet seat. Actually, thinking about it, I have never been to anyone's house and found the toilet lid down. So all my friends must be sluts too!

I am rather glad that I have got to the age of 67 without giving any of it a passing thought.

How funny - I didn't even know about soft close toilet lids until yesterday when my daughter apologised because she closed ours as she would her own and it slammed down! Now I am wondering if it is yet another gimmick/gadget that we need. I guess that, when you have small children and/or pets, it is sensible to keep the toilet lid closed. Otherwise i close ours if it is smelly or if I have put in cleaner or bleach.
