Soft close toilet seats

I see I am not the only one who doesn't turn the light on in the middle of the night! Luckily my OH is very good and always closes the lid so I know, otherwise I would probably sit on the porcelain.

tanith, it is separate! smile

tanith Fri 04-Mar-16 17:41:33

Oh please put the lid down unless your toilet is separate from the bathroom smile

Ana Fri 04-Mar-16 17:41:25

That's even worse! Not just a shock to the system but a lurch of fear as well...shock

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 17:38:31

Oh yes! Feels like you're gonna fall down it! shock

It's worse when going for a middle of the night wee, trying not to wake oneself up too much, and finding that A MAN has left the seat up! Not only is the porcelain rather cold on ones derriere, but is is also lower than expected, which can cause alarm!

Fortunately it is very rare that Mr P is guilty of this heinous crime.

Yes, I have done that jingl - it certainly is a horrible shock, especially if it's the middle of the night and you're half-asleep!

Hardly ever bother putting the lid down nowadays, I must say...

Yep shock especially this weather !

DD1 has them so DGS1 is used to them and always crashes our ordinary ones down. At least he puts the seat down because his cats like to drink the water.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 17:22:40

Luckily the coldness makes you jump up quickly.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 04-Mar-16 17:21:45

Has anyone else ever sat on the loo without actually lifting the lid first? Right old shock it is. grin

Alima Fri 04-Mar-16 17:15:11

The trouble is when you use a loo without a soft closing mechanism. I tend to forget and end up slamming the lid down. Nothing like drawing attention to yourself.

Ours are from Lidl , working well , saves that clattering noise in the middle of the night

tanith Fri 04-Mar-16 17:04:49

Oh dear I think I was confusing 'seat' with 'lid', I of course meant the lid closes softly not the seat.. blush sorry..

tanith Fri 04-Mar-16 17:02:11

confused Luckygirl we open ours to use the toilet, the mind boggles grin

ninathenana Fri 04-Mar-16 17:01:44

Ours is fine, it came with the bathroom which was installed by a local firm about 4 yrs ago.
Maybe it's lasted well because I'm the only one who actually puts the cover down although the men do put the seat down after use.

Luckygirl Fri 04-Mar-16 16:59:24

Never heard of such a thing! Presumably you feel the need to open them in order to have them close softly. Ours stay right where they are.

tanith Fri 04-Mar-16 16:56:41

No problems with ours, its 4/5yrs old we bought it in B & Q. I don't think was very expensive either. I know how annoying the noise is because I always flick other peoples toilet seats down if I happen to use them for the same reason. I think everyone should have soft close toilet seats grin

Tizliz Fri 04-Mar-16 16:53:54

Yes, both mine purchased from Bathstore have given up, though I think they lasted more than 12 months. Really annoying, I thought they were wonderful while they worked properly.

Charleygirl Fri 04-Mar-16 16:52:51

I have had soft close fitted on my two loos since 2011 but admittedly I live on my own so I am very careful. I am aware that anybody else who uses the loos do try to force the seats down at times. To date they have not started banging.

dirgni Fri 04-Mar-16 16:36:25

During refurbishment I bought 2 toilets from the Bathstore, both having soft close seats. 12 months later the seats are no longer soft close and because everyone is used to the soft close mechanism there is an awful lot of banging and clattering ever time someone uses the bathroom! In my previous house I had a soft close loo seat purchased from a more upmarket showroom that remained true to form. We had it for at least 6 years and it was still as good as new when we left. Has anyone out there experienced similar problems?shock
