Ebay auction...

I've never used Ebay before but I've put a three piece suite in an auction; the charity shops wouldn't accept it as the fire safety label wasn't up to date enough. I couldn't face sending something so well made to the tip, even though it's old it's an Art Forma suite and incredibly well made. I'm now panicking as people seem to be bidding for it and it has to be gone by the weekend as I'm going away. Do I have to sell to the highest bidder; can I just pull the plug on the whole thing confused? I honestly didn't expect anyone to show an interest but just wanted to not feel so guilty if I did send it to the tip blush. There was no interest on freecycle.

Tegan, I bet you've never cheered on a sofa before!

Art Forma's not a bad name for a horse.

I've been out all day; I just hope that the people bidding have seen the note about having to collect it asap....I've contacted them to say that just now....

Marelli Tue 15-Mar-16 20:12:53

I've seen it, Tegan. If they've asked a question, then they'll look at the answer. Nearly there!

Tegan Tue 15-Mar-16 20:18:16

They didn't ask it, though...just hope they've seen it...

Well done, Tegan Much better than sending it to the tip!

Marelli Tue 15-Mar-16 20:31:54

Is that your sofa that has just sold ? And you didn't expect much for it.

Tegan Tue 15-Mar-16 20:34:49

shock....what do I do now??

Elegran Tue 15-Mar-16 20:42:18

The help pages on Ebay will tell you what to do. Your inbox will have messages from Ebay and Paypal (not PP if you are taking the money on collection). Just deal with each one in turn, and keep in contact with the buyer about collecting. Don't hand it over until the cash is in your hand, and if it is a cheque, properly speaking it should clear before you hand over the goods. Tricky when you want it collected soon. Most people can be trusted.

Wow Tegan, I bet you're glad you didn't pull the plug on the auction and send it to the tip! Well done - that's pretty good going for an eBay virgin grin

...the possibilities are endless...first of all need to get a new armchair as I'm a chair short now....

I have a lovely Parker Knoll wooden armed rocker in fairly good condition. A wedding present from one of my father's patients in 1967, but reupholstered and varnished since.

If not Paypal, I would insist on cash, most can get that much cash from a cash machine.

Tegan Tue 15-Mar-16 21:28:53

They're paying by paypal as it will have to be picked up by a courier.

Marelli Tue 15-Mar-16 22:41:36

That's even better! Bet you've breathed a sigh of relief!

Tegan Tue 15-Mar-16 22:44:23

No. What if they don't like it when they get it? sad...

Marelli Tue 15-Mar-16 22:52:18

They have had plenty of opportunity to look closely at the photos. There have also been questions asked by other people and you've answered them, also explaining that the suite was quite old. Have they put the money in your PayPal account yet? You'll get an email when it goes in.

I'd never make a salesman would I? I go to great lengths to tell people why they shouldn't buy what I'm selling.

Someone paying that price and sending a courier will be doing it up and selling it on at a profit. I never fret about that sort of buyer Tegan

Tegan Wed 16-Mar-16 09:35:41

That's true. We're really struggling to find a courier to take a table up north so someone who can get a courier very quickly to transport a large item of furniture must be someone who knows what they're doing.

Just to put your mind at rest Tegan. We sold some Victorian dining furniture a couple of years ago, on EBay.

It all went well. The sideboard buyer brought a self drive van and showed me how the sideboard dismantled! Something that I had not known. The table buyer came and wanted to know if he could also have the chairs!
I thought they would be of no interest and, as the were partially upholstered, thought they were only to be dumped!( not fireproof, but horsehair ) He cheerfully paid cash for them.

I'm sure it will all work out well.

Tegan Not sure if the courier's been organised yet, but you can find them on eBay itself. I've had a couple of things delivered that way in the past and it was quite easy to arrange. I think I just tapped 'courier' into the search box.
