Nephew desperate for flat - can anyone help?

Hi pollaidh so sorry that your young nephew finds himself in this predicament and good of you to try and help.

The only advice I can offer is that I am on a local closed facebook group for the area where I live and I constantly see similar requests on there (i.e. to help find accommodation for someone in receipt of benefits). It's actually a [Name of area] Mums Group and people are very good about helping others in the group. So if you or your nephew are on facebook, it might be worth a try to see whether there is a local group like that.

Or, you could try Streetlife for that area, it is a website where people post and ask for all sorts of local knowledge and assistance: www.streetlife.com/

Has he tried housing trusts like Anchor? He would certainly qualify under their rules for prioritised housing because of his health problems and lack of proper housing. Hope he finds something permanent soon.

Trisher - he is registered with all social housing groups and has been for months now. However, the waiting list is enormous.... but thanks for the response!

Try English Rural Housing Association. They have a website.

Also try a home search agency which may be able to help on his behalf find somewhere suitable. This is what my small company does but in the S.E. of England and I charge a success/finders fee.

I sincerely hope he finds a peaceful home soon as it is paramount for the road to recovery from all sorts of health issues. Home is so important to us all, and a home that matches your individual needs and desires cannot be underestimated.

Local councils also work with local private developers in some areas where the council sell premises in shopping/town areas that have been run down to housing developers in return for the developer renting the newly renovated property out to their waiting list tenants for 5-10 years.

I'm saddened by this. My nephew has MS but he lives in Canada.
What is hard to believe is that D and her then partner were allocated a flat in Edinburgh within a week when he lost his job and the accommodation that went with it. He was given priority due to the complications he suffers with type 1 diabetes. Your nephew deserves priority too.

Yes, look up housing associations in the area where he would prefer to live. He will qualify but may have to wait a bit.

What about him just sharing with one other person? That could open up more options. If he shares with a more mature person who is out at work all day it could perhaps be a compromise?
