How many dishwashers in your home?

As a DT reader I have read enough of Ben and Marina Fogle to last several lifetimes. They are a constant presence. I have one dishwasher, used about 3 times a week.

Modern dishwashers are not environmentally bad- they use far less water and electricity than washing up by hand and are much more hygienic than using a tea towel for drying.

That research was for one dishwasher though!shock

One is more than enough for us and it takes us two days to fill it , 4 is just rediculous and I always thought Ben Fogle was a sensible young man ?

Again me and the machine which goes on twice a day! I always wanted two washing machines when the family was at home but it goes for days now without being put on.

Me and the machine, more than enough- we cope well together.

I had a laugh at this too! I'd have to buy a lot more dishes to fill 4 dishwashers! It takes the two of us 2/3 days to fill one! Unless we have guests. DH is my second dishwasher - he washes and I dry! We have had many a long conversation to sort out the world over washing and drying dishes - not quite the same over a dishwasher though. My MIL bought our first when we had 3 DC in 3 years - very kind!

Just the one for us, though I must confess to having had two washing machines side by side. That was bliss!

There's the one that runs on electricity, the one that runs on beer and then the one that often doesn't work even with wine! smile

I have only one dishwasher and fill it up during the day and switch it on in the evening when full and empty it the following morning. I never leave the dishwasher, washing machine or tumble dryer on overnight or when we are going out due to fire risk. One dishwasher in UK actually caught fire while DH and his son were eating their tea - it was 11 years old so we bought a new one. Just had all the palaver with my Hotpoiny dryer but it is now all fixed.
I don't know why you say dishwashers are not eco friendly as they are all cold water feed and use less water than washing the same amount of dishes in the sink. Is there some other reason they are not so?

We have two; a machine and DP.

I know that the machines are horribly environmentally unfriendly but it saved my sanity as DP would never wash up straight after our main evening meal but would leave the dirty dishes until the morning. Which drove me demented, I can't bear to see piles of dirty dishes sitting around the kitchen (division of labour at the time being I cooked, he washed up). Now the machine washes everything overnight and he empties it first thing in the morning. This system has worked very well for 20+ years.

DP gets his hands wet if there's too much to go in the dishwasher.

Just the one, me.

I have always advocated two dishwashers, to save putting the dishes away, but have never had more than one.

I laughed at the bit about not leaving dishes to dry on the draining board because somebody else will only go and put wet, dripping dishes on top of them.

Don't any of them know how to dry up or do they not want to get their Emma Bridgewater tea towels wet?

Nice to have kitchens big enough to hold multiple dishwashers. Mine has one and no space for anymore.

Me and the machine which I use on high days and holidays

ninathenana Sat 14-May-16 17:45:21

I laughed when I saw that in my paper this morning

I've only had a dishwasher since we refitted the kitchen about 5 yrs ago. I don't have the space or the inclination for more than one.

Following on from the....'What's on your worktop thread'

If you own four dishwashers you never have to put things away in cupboards!

Who knew.

We have a slimline Electrolux that's 15 years old and still going strong. The DGCs call it Ye Olde Dishe Washer
