mirror problem on bathroom cabinet

About three years ago we purchased a 2 mirror door bathroom cabinet which is made of metal (stainless steel I think) as opposed to wood which the previous were cabinets made from.
Because the shower room gets a lot of steam/ condensation. we had hoped the metal one would last longer.
And at present the cabinet its self is as good as new.
However the top of one of the doors has become tarnished.
I'm sure the other door will follow suit.

I don't want to buy a new cabinet as its in good order.
Also its on tiles, so would have added problem drilling more holes.
Does any GNetters have a solution?
I had considered painting a border around mirror but I think that the tarnish will soon 'grow' below it.
Also not sure what paint. Would be suitable

Bathrooms are tricky...all that condensation. You could try Protectaclear coating. We used it on our new BBQ as our old one fell apart from rust (lives in damp garage most of the year.) It seems to be working well for us. Good luck.

We have a similar problem with our round the sink shelf unit. Our daughter bought it as a present for our new bathroom, she said hers was chrome and had rusted, so she bought us a metal one painted white. However, that has begun to rust around the joins where it`s been put together. Will it be OK to buy some normal white paint and paint it all?

numberplease I would use Hammerite Direct to Rust white paint. We have used it on the frame of a garden swing and it prevented the rust from leaking through the paint.
