Do you check regularly your water electric gas meters etc? Or do you leave it up to the meter men?
Since a friend in our village has had a huge water bill I've been more careful about this. In their position - a leak followed some months later by a second leak - I think I would have been checking regularly after the first one.

We don't have a water meter but I put gas and electric readings in monthly.

Dh does that tonight and it drives him mad that he doesn't get a bill for weeks months. Our water meter is in the middle of the road to we leave it to others to do! grin

We don't check gas and electric unless we've had an estimated bill.
I will get H to check the water meter though as we did have a leek a few weeks ago near our meter which is on the pavement outside our boundary. The repair guy assured me it wouldn't register on my meter but after reading the op. I think we need to look.

I check my gas and electricity meter every time the quarterly bill appears. I prefer paying quarterly by DD to monthly payments i have no control over.I do not check the water meter bcause it is difficult to find, let alone access.

I forgot that many people in the UK don't have water meters.
So how do you know if you have a leak?
Ours (France) is outside at the back. We used to live near Southend and there the meters were outside under the pavement. But I don't think we had one when we lived in Gateshead. Nor Hull.

DH checks meters a lot ( suspicious nature) and we have had a water meter for years, just had a smart meter installed.

I have a water meter but it is in the ground underneath our gravel drive. Every time they come to read it the meter reader uses his metal detector to find it, scrapes off the 6 inches of gravel reads the meter and by the time I have taken my car in and out of the garage a couple of times it is covered again. Then every 5 years we put another load of gravel on the drive............

If only they had had the sense to put it on the outside of the house where the water main goes through the wall.

MOnica that would be too simple. Luckily I do not have a water meter but I try to check my gas and electricity meters regularly. My combined monthly payment of £34 to me is very low but I did not make that decision. They forget that I use more of both in winter and I would prefer to pay the same amount throughout the year than go up and down like a yo- yo.

always check mine and its a good job I do as Iast year I got a new meter as the old one was faulty ...well the electric company set it wrong and I was paying full price over night ( economy7) for my storage heating!!!!
