Thinking of Sheltered Housing

I own my own Terraced house. It is not worth a lot about £120,000 if that. I have no close relations and would like to move to a sheltered bungalow. Does anyone know if I can sell the house and move to a Housing Trust property. I was told by someone I know that she planned to sell and move to a Housing Trust property. If so, how do I find out about this possibility? Any sheltered housing I see is more expensive to buy than the value of my property. I bought this house through "Right to Buy" 30 years ago.

no you wouldnt be able to apply for social housing as you would be making yourself homeless by selling your home. However there are private sheltered schemes which you would be able to rent ie Girlings and Anchor, the problem is that the rents are very high.

I think Age UK have some advice on how to go about the next step - give them a try.

A friend of a friend recently sold her bungalow and moved into a Local Housing Authority Sheltered House, there were 50 new build, most were rented, 2 for sale and the rest part owned. So I was really looking at that. It was in a different area from me though.

Teetime is right. The place to look for help and advice is your local branch of Age UK (used to be Age Concern)

I know a couple of people locally who have sold houses (bought years before under right to buy) and moved into Sheltered housing owned by the local housing association. The timing is the only thing that I cannot work out for one of them as she went straight into rented from selling, maybe just lucky that a place came empty. The other person sold, private rented and then went into HA place. Think you would need to contact your local authority housing and see what they do.

Certainly talk to your local housing office in some places you can move into sheltered housing and they will set a time scale for you sell your property. I'm not sure how it works completely but its worth contacting them.
