Freezer kaput and just out of guarantee

I think it reasonable that if a product breaks after 2 years and it could have been expected to last at least 4 years, that you should get 50% towards a replacement.

yes complain, I had a tv that broke down 6 weeks after the guarantee ran out and I contacted them and they were very good, although I didnt get a full replacement they issued me with a voucher to go towards a brand new tv!

I would definately complain, what can you lose? I would write a letter to head office too. Surely even if something is out of guarantee, it should reasonably be expected to last at least 5 years. I do wonder if they make things now not to last, so we keep buying or am I being cynical.

By the way, the head office was Comet or Curry's, where the item was purchased from and not the manufacturer.

I had a similar problem and was told to write to the head office stating that the product was 'not fit for purpose' as it is expected that such items have a reasonable given lifespan. I did actually get a refund of the value in vouchers because I had already bought a replacement.

Yes, she does stand a good chance of some compensation. Goods are expected to last a reasonable amount of time (read the article from Badekate). 2 years 3 months is not reasonable, I would expect a free repair or part cost towards a replacement.

I have twice made claims outside warranty periods and been successful. Once with Dell and the second with Panasonic. You need to claim in writing or email and to someone who has the authority to recompense you (usually the manufacturer). Choose you words carefully, stressing that they are a well respected company with quality products and you would not have anticipated such early failure. Good Luck

That's what I would do go to the manufacturer and if no joy start writing poor reviews on social media!!!

May not help, but my son had a similar problem and emptying the freezer and complexly 'defrosting', although it was one that did not frost up, and cleaning sorted it out. Other wise I would go directly to the manufacturer if no joy from Argos, may be via a daily news paper.
