I'm asking for advice yet again, ladies!
Mt hands are arthritic and I can't us ordinarry can openers. My family bought me a good make of electric opener on a stand but I couldn't get along with it: don't know if the thing went wrong after a while or if my technophobia resurfaced.
Please can anyone suggest an alternative?

I bought a battery operated hands free can opener from JML, Culinary do one the same.
[[http://www.jmldirect.com/kitchen/kitchen-accessories/hands-free-automatic-can-opener/ this is the one I have. It opens plenty of cans before you need to replace the batteries.

What do you actually buy in cans? Maybe you can just do without them altogether.

Most things are possibly available in other forms - frozen, bottled, or just get the fresh versions. Soups come in cartons or plastic containers like take-away coffee cups.

(For bottled things, you just bang the edge of the lid sharply on the floor and the lid comes off easily.)

And who, with arthritic fingers and thumbs, can open jars. Those plastic soup containers defeat me. I have to get the DH to open them for me.

How about ring pull cans using one of those opener thingies?

I can manage ringpull, but how do you avoid the liquid contents spurting all over your clothes? Tuna is the worst for that.

When I use the ring pull thingy to open a tin, especially tuna, I do it in the sink to catch any splashes.

The JML can opener opens ring pull cans and it has a magnet so the lid lifts off with it. It will open all sizes of can. I wouldn't be without mine now.
