Remoska

I have had one for years but have abandoned it now as the dish has lost all its non-stick. And - guess what? - the whole shebang has changed and you cannot get a replacement dish because the design is no longer the same. I am a bit peeved about that.

We have the smaller Remoska which we use in our campervan, because there is no oven. To prevent damage to the non-stick surface of the base we have lined it with a circle of a washable non-stick liner, also from Lakeland Plastics. We have used the Remoska for roasting meat but any joint which is too close to the lid may burn unless it is protected with a layer of tin foil. It cooks meat very well but as there is no temperature control it is necessary to lift the lid from time to time to check how it is doing. It is also useful for cooking chops, fish and vegetables like roast potatoes, warming shop-bought lasagne and similar. I have also successfully used it to cook cakes like Victoria sponges using my usual cake tins inside the base. The low electrical rating of the Remoska makes it cheap to use and safe on a caravan site where it will not blow the electrics.

I saw one of these today whilst in Lakeland NotTooOld - I didn't pay too much heed as I was busy being talked into persuaded of the advantages of buying a soup maker!! I have used it tonight and it is brilliant I have to say....

We also bought a lovely condiment set - which when OH looked at it on Amazon came in at a much cheaper price. We mentioned this to the assistant and she said oh, no problem - we are happy to price match!! So, if you decide to go ahead with the Remoska purchase - buying from lakeland with their price match is worth considering - especially as it is very easy to return any item that you are not satisfied with - good luck x

I have a large Ramoska which we used a lot when we were in rented accommodation after our fire. We used it so much because the electric cooker in the rental was prehistoric, took centuries to heat up and gobbled electricity.

Hence the Ramoska was a much cheaper option to run and heated up very quickly. I got quite adept at rustling up meat and two veg in it and making gratins etc.. I used to line it with tin foil to save the surface or wrap fish in foil and cook it.

Hardly used it since we returned home, but must dig it out again. It depends on why you want one and what it's for. They are great if you're camping provided you've an electric hook up.

Thanks jogginggirl and Anya. I love my soup maker, too! Got it last year and have used it a lot. I might use a Ramoska in our camper van but more likely it would be in the kitchen at home as I don't much like cooking in the camper - I'd rather eat out! I wouldn't be cooking meat in it as we don't eat meat but we do eat fish. Can you cook more than one thing in it at a time? For example, fish and vegetables?

Yes you can. If you want to keep the flavours separate the make little foil parcels.

PS I am also really delighted with my soup maker!

I am cooking sausages and jacket potato in my Remoska at the moment. I love it, but reading on here about Halogen ovens, I wish I had gone for one instead, as you can see what is happening and it has a timer and temperature control. They are also much cheaper.

I thought soup makers were a ridiculous thing as using a saucepan is so simple. However, after being given one by DD, I think it is fantastic!
