Yes make sure you get three quotes for everything including solicitors and estate agents.
Packing service is brilliant.

Packing a 4 bed house was £200, it included all garage and garden stuff. This seemed to be the going rate, regardless.

If you've sold through Estate Agents, their fees are ridiculously high!

We always pay for the packing to be done, it's worth it, but about 8 years since we moved so can't give prices.The main cost of moving house is legal costs though, plus any work the new house needs, even carpets and curtains and redecorating.I read a couple of years ago to allow about £17000 for the whole process, but it all depends on the value of the houses involved.Good Luck.?

I'm in the throes of moving at the moment, and I am in such a pickle with packing. I have so much china and glassware and it's going to take me ages to get it all safely stowed.
I hate to think how much it would cost to have it professionally packed. DD says I ought to get rid of the lot, but I just can't bear to part with it.
As for the actual moving bit, there are plenty of good removals firms around - it's best to get at least three estimates and a firm quote before deciding, and specify exactly what needs to be moved and packed. Also, check with them how they will handle and protect fragile goods like TVs, computers, etc, and how they will wrap mattresses and upholstery to keep them clean and undamaged. A good firm will be only too glad to help you, and sometimes it's worth paying just a little more to get a better service. Also check that they are fully insured.

The firm's website will usually give you some idea of the costs involved depending on distance and house size etc. I'd advise using their packing service too, if you can afford it - saves loads of time and worry!

Exact prices are difficult as stamp duty, solicitors fees and estate agents fees are usually worked out on a percentage of value of the property. Get estimates from each of the services you are using. Stamp duty can be worked out from the Gov. web site.

Shop around for removal firms as prices can vary a great deal. The cheapest is not always the best! If you can, go on a recommendation from someone who has used a firm. We found the extra cost for having them pack was well worth it?

It is many years since I moved but a lot depends on what you want the firm to do. I live on my own and wanted to take advantage of the packing service but If you do it yourself that will shave pounds off.

Somebody who has moved recently may be able to furnish you with an idea of cost.
