Hoovering new carpets

We had new carpets fitted yesterday and the ones in the lounge and dining room have quite a thick dense pile. After the fitters left, we brushed up all the fluff and went to run the cleaner over the rooms. It's a Dyson and it was almost impossible to push it across the pile. We ended up having to pull it backwards across the carpets. Thinking of getting a Eubank type mechanical cleaner for everyday use and then drag the Dyson over once a week. Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.hmm

If you have an Animal Dyson have you tried switching it to hard floor setting that should be easier.

Once the pile has "bedded in" and you've walked on it for a week or so, you may find it easier to hoover.

We used to be told not to vacuum new carpets, mind you it was a long time ago. I think it was so the fluff worked it's way back down into the pile. Or not. confused

Bought a BexBissel sweeper for about £13 from Amazon and it came the next day. Job done. It had excellent reviews online and is very light but sturdy. Picks up dust crumbs etc and strangely is quite fun to use. My 17 yr old GS wanted to know where the battery was but then spent ages whizzing round with it. It's actually neat enough to hide behind the full length curtains. No excuse now for bits on the carpet. Will keep the Dyson for a drag round once a week.
