Carpet cleaning

I have heard that, if you have a carpet cleaned, it then gets dirty far more quickly afterwards, and needs to be cleaned frequently. Has anyone found this to be true, or is it just a myth?

I think this is definitely true. This is what has happened in my experience. Could it be something to do with natural oils being stripped out? My theory anway.

I use a family carpet cleaning company once a year and they're excellent. I think that they scotch guard the carpets afterwards, something like that? Anyway, the carpets always look great, despite me having an open house policy and loads of my young friends have littlies and I'm in and out from the garden sometimes in bare feet. Guess I've just got self-cleaning feet grin

Just cleaned (some of) ours today. I think you're probably right, but we bought a Vax carpet cleaner so we just clean where needs it. Saying that, we have had a light oatmeally carpet and two dogs for over 10 years and generally any dirt still just brushes off.

Anyway, it's better to buy a new carpet than leave your old one dirty. Moreover, dry-cleaners' use soft substances, so I don't think carpets will be spoitlt soon.

I no longer have carpets or even rugs but Nandalot's experience was the same as mine.
