Keeping kitchen pipes clean

Calgon? Also do very hot washes now and then.

Yes I do the hottest wash every week with my white sheets, but it still clogged up completely. I'll have a look at Calgon. It isn't so much the limescale I think but gunk. Probably both.

Maybe don't use any powder products as well.We have very hard water, but Calgon now and then (not as often as should) and regular hot washes, seems to do the job.Obviously I haven't seen inside the pipes, but have had the washing machine a good few years and the dishwasher is about 12 years old.

What about soda crystals? At least they are a lot cheaper than Calgon.

I second the use of soda crystals.

Soda crystals are the best or use a cup of vinegar

I use Soda crystals too, down sinks/drains and in the washing machine.

I agree about powder products. I've used the little sachets for years - no calgon or high temps - and my washing machine is still going strong after 11 years.

I buy a bottle of drain clearer in Waitrose.Pour it down the sink. leave it for half an hour, pour down a kettle of boiling water. Job done.

It is an occasional job, so I am not that concerned about the cost, which isn't enormous.
