Sheepskin cleaning

Sheepskins can be machine washed. I have one that I've had for forty years and that's been washed in an ordinary washing machine several times. If yours fits in a launderette washing machine it should be fine on a wool wash.

I have also washed one in the machine. Worth putting it in old duvet cover so no wool escapes?

I wash mine on the wool wash in the washing machine too.

I have two real Shetland sheep skins which my MiL gave me 45 years ago. I was told then to wash them in the washing machine in car shampoo because it contained wax which stopped the fibres drying out. Over the years the lovely long fibres became very matted and they are now used as extra padding round the hot water tank !
Any advice about getting rid of the matting ? I did try combing them once but talk about a thankless task !

I've got a number of sheepskins around the house. I too put them in the washing machine on a wool wash, I give them two spins then a good shake and put them out on the washing line. It helps if you can find a windy/sunny day.

Re the 'accident', I would try a prewash of the area with a small quantity of biological washing powder or get one of those products aimed at cleaning up pet soiling. They work well.
