I do all my own painting and decorating and I've never washed the ceiling. Have I been a slattern all these years? I clean down any particularly grubby marks on the walls, around light switches and plugs for example, but the ceiling never entered my mind! should I be ashamed?

especially the cobwebs as they do tend to clog up the brush grin

just get rid of any dust and cobwebs confused

No one's going to know - and the new paint won't drop off! grin

Why would you wash ceilings and walls before painting them? confused

That's a new one

I had no idea that anyone had ever washed a ceiling though I once heard of someone dusting her rockery. Not even professional decorators wash before painting. Just paint over all those grubby fingerprints on your ceiling.

I just paint them!

Sugar soap here - what a horrible job it is to wash ceilings......
