Hi What is the best way to wash ceilings and walls pre-painting? any ideas to make it easier? smile

you wash them cos their dirty, dirt stays underneath.

I thought I was house proud but never washed a ceiling other than the kitchen. I think removing dust and cobwebs is sufficient.
Aggie that was funny and so true.grin

I just clean the dust from walls with dustpan brush before painting on them.
Thanks!!

I look as if I've escaped from somewhere in any photo - a kind of desperate half smile
grin not like that one

Maggiemaybe Tue 21-Mar-17 23:27:04

And all our spots and wrinkles in glorious close up grin

Maggiemaybe Tue 21-Mar-17 23:26:15

Oh, have a go, it's good for a laugh. I've saved some of my attempts just to cheer up a grey day. Me staring wide-eyed up at the camera as if a train's bearing down on me. DH looming up behind like an escaped lunatic. Both of us blocking out the beautiful view behind us...

Jalima Tue 21-Mar-17 23:15:21

I've never tried!

Maggiemaybe Tue 21-Mar-17 22:59:22

You're joking, Jalima! I haven't even mastered how to get a selfie of DH and me together without at least one of us looking as though we've dislocated our neck. grin

tiffaney Tue 21-Mar-17 20:16:24

You could use a Karcher but you'd have to stand on your head ?

Jalima Tue 21-Mar-17 18:19:25

Did you get a 'selfie' ?

With Harvey Nicks' name overhead (posh)

Maggiemaybe Tue 21-Mar-17 13:38:01

I met the Kim and Aggie Aggie on an escalator at Harvey Nicks in Leeds. We were both heading for Yo Sushi on the top floor, which was closed for refurbishment when we got there, so we had a nice chat as to where to go instead. She was lovely, but I notice she didn't follow us to Little Tokyo grin. I'm surprised this tale didn't make the Grazie Celebrity pages actually....

Wow! I'm quite a slob and do as little housework as possible, but I have always washed ceilings and walls before painting them. The living room ceiling usually looks a bit mucky because of the coal fire.
I am working myself up to a bit of decorating soon, though, and will reconsider my approach to washing of ceilings and walls.

petra Tue 21-Mar-17 12:38:39

Like chewbacca I still do all the painting and I've never washed a ceiling before painting, there's no need.

Jalima Tue 21-Mar-17 10:02:27

(Appletree Yard)

aggie Tue 21-Mar-17 09:07:47

No relation to Aggie of Kim and Aggie , I am a mucky ole pup and never washed a ceiling in my life ................ but I have stepped in many a bucket wink

Auntieflo Tue 21-Mar-17 08:48:28

Aggie, you missed the bit where you step back, right into the bucket! shock

Hopehope Mon 20-Mar-17 23:58:09

I just get rid of dust and cobwebs too unless I am doing the kitchen, then I will wash any greasy bits off, usually with very hot water and some washing up liquid, it isn't usually too bad.

Jalima Mon 20-Mar-17 23:15:08

aggie are you Aggie of Kim and Aggie fame?
(No wonder she washes her ceilings grin)

Jalima Mon 20-Mar-17 23:13:26

Ceilings don't get dirty though -except for cobwebs which you would get rid of regularly anyway

aggie Mon 20-Mar-17 22:38:04

grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 20-Mar-17 22:32:27

We've been emulsioning the stairs and landing today. No cleaning at all involved. In fact, we even convinced ourselves that nobody would ever notice if we didn't paint the ceiling. blush

Chewbacca Mon 20-Mar-17 22:22:51

Think I'll pass, thanks Aggie! I'll stick with slapping another coat of emulsion on!

aggie Mon 20-Mar-17 21:42:09

How to wash a ceiling !
undress to underwear
ignore the doorbell
don painters overalls
search for that shower cap you nicked last time you stayed in an Hotel
don motorcycle goggles
trip over bucket of soapy water
refill bucket
climb stepladder
remember you don't like heights and retreat one step
rub bit of ceiling you can reach with wet rag #]#
ignore drips running up your arm and climb down ladder
move ladder and repeat.............

Chewbacca Mon 20-Mar-17 21:27:13

Dunno Roses! I use Flash or Cif myself!

rosesarered Mon 20-Mar-17 21:08:47

I just dust walls prior to painting ( fluffy duster type thing.) Never done anything with a ceiling. What on earth is sugar soap!
