Ceiling fans

Got one a month ago from Argos. I'm usually very hot at night and this is really efficient. I usually use the slowest setting and it's virtually silent with a soft breeze blowing down. Would definitely recommend!

We've had one in the master bedroom for 20 years , I love it . It's very quiet, produces only a stirring of the air rather than a breeze like a table fan. I wouldn't be without it.

All sounds good! The ones I have looked at online seem to have the facility to spin in the opposite direction during the winter to send the rising heat downwards. And they have a light.

There was one in the conservatory here when we bought the house. It wasn't particularly efficient and when we had the new roof put on we got rid of it. I rather wish we'd kept it now! Other than that, the only experience I have of them goes back to Singapore in the late sixties!

We have one in the living room and are always grateful for it when we get these hot days. With the Windows and doors open it moves the air through the house and really cool it down.

We had them in Malaysia and Singapore in the late 60's early 70's, I refused to have them on, I had visions of the blades coming off and decapitating me!

We have had ceiling lights with fans in all our bedrooms for 28 years, they work either just light, just fan, or light and fan, the fan has 3 speed settings and we have it on the lowest setting for sleeping on hot/warm nights. We have the ones with white blades so havn't really dated and have been a boom in warm weather, ours cost about £30 each all that time ago and I dont think they are much more expensive now, think we got them in B&Q.

I love ceiling fans, they remind me of Africa. They are so soothing.

I think it's quite important to buy good quality ones and have them expertly installed so that they don't wobble. I don't like the ones that incorporate a light because we don't like a single central light in a room ... a fan is a fan and a light is a light

Our house has three floors, when we moved here I didn't like the ceiling fan in our bedroom on the top floor and thought "that will have to go", then I faced the first summer in this house and realised it's purpose, heat rising as it does, our bedroom at times becomes stiffling. 16 years on it's still there and I also have a freestanding fan on my side of the bed. Sometimes I feel we are living it the tropics rather than the south of England.

Glad to hear it Luckygirl. Good luck finding some suitable ceiling fans. I'll continue to shudder at the thought!

LadyGracie what did you have instead of ceiling fans? I don't know how we would have managed without ours in all that heat.
