Popcorn is another way of describing artex stippled ceiling. Best way is to re-plaster.

Replastering is the only way.
Every $&$@$&&& ceiling in my house has this....... I've almost learned to live with it

It may contain asbestos, especially if it was put up in the 1960s/ 70s. Plastering over it is they way to go.

Back in the seventies I could have started a thread with, Easy way to removing stains Ceiling from exploding home made ginger beer bottles?

We moved on to pop-corn in the eighties.....and Artex grin

Charleygirl Mon 17-Jul-17 09:10:59

Maw excuse me but I am now an expert in all types of building work, mainly knowing what one should not do!

It depends on the type of Artex as to whether one can skim or have to do a full re-plaster.

My house was built in 1988 so was Artexed throughout. As rooms have needed major work I have added skimming to the list.

Merlot, we still have the wine stains on the integral cover in the hot water tank in the airing cupboard from DH's exploding homemade red wine. Lucky for him he was taking a party of schoolchildren to Russia at the time.
