Upholstery cleaning

When I bought my sofa a couple of years ago, I was advised only to spot-clean because otherwise the fireproofing is destroyed.

As you might expect, I have taken the cushion covers off a couple of times and washed them, and they came out better (but not much )

Jeans do transfer dye
We have leather sofa but use throws as a protection as all my family myself included wear jeans.
Its a shame arm and neck protectors for chairs and sofas are not as fashionable as they were in my grandmother's day

Mine are like that tanith but it did seem to brighten them up.
Problem now is the zips are going and hand sewing looks a mess.

I had my 2 sofas cleaned professionally just before I moved into this house. They came up like brand new. I now make a point of using a throw or hammam if we are wearing jeans as according to the upholstery cleaner the dye transfers and is the cause of most grubby sofas.

Thanks, troubl is only the arms and seat covers are unzippable the back cushions have no zips and they will look even worse if I wash the rest.

If the covers are zipped on I would take them off and wash them on a gentle cycle. My chairs are g-plan and I have done this.
I will admit you need brute force to get them back on ,but they do stretch to a good fit with some effort,

I might give those ideas a try thanks . Has anyone had a professional cleaner in and was it worth th e money spent?

I am ashamed of my sofa, despite it being a darkish brown tweed the arms are really grubby
I used Astonish shampoo for carpets and upholstery, it's a spray that you leave on for a few minutes and wipe off with a damp cloth. The results were good but not 100%

I received an Easylife catalogue yesterday, and am wondering whether to try some powder on there, it`s for carpets or upholstery, £14.99 for three 440gm bags.
