I am moving into a new home and one wall in the dining room has been covered in pallet wood. Younger members of my family think it is great. All I see are slats of rough wood. It was apparently done very well but don't know if I can live with it. It has been suggested that I might like it better after a coat of wood wash. Any suggestions?

Rip it off, it sounds horrid

Try the wood colour, first, and then decide.

If you do then take it off, bear in mind that it could be hiding a multitude of sins, or make a bit of replastering necessary!

I suppose a nice neutral cream colour wash might make all the difference?

Annie Sloane has lovely colours. Might be a good try before taking it down.

A bit off piste, but when we were having some modifications done at work, the builders took great delight in using the pallets that stuff had been delivered on to knock up some (admittedly quite serviceable) benches which they placed in the courtyard.

We are a school of fine furniture making................

How old is the house? What horrors could it be hiding?

Staple some fabric to it?

Hang some fairy lights in amongst its nooks and things..

Way back when it was the fashion to clad your walls with pine, that's what we did. Much later I couldn't face taking it all down, so we used a Wood Wash colour called Smoke. (Made by the 'hairy dog' company). It has been great, now I fancy a change of colour, but haven't yet summoned up the energy. Yesterday I visited a boutiquey shop, all upcycled stuff and shabby chic. Their walls were clad with old pallets and I loved it, but not sure I could live with it day to day.

A lot depends on what style of furnishings you have. It would look very odd if everything in the room was pretty traditional.

Are you sure it wasn't used as a squat, sounds gross.

Have a Google for some images of pallet walls. You'll get some ideas then, I'm sure. Even if its the idea that it has to go!

All things pallet according to Pinterest
Is in voguegrin
Indoors- bookcases, cabinets and even beds for human or pets and as mentioned by Phoenix outdoor furniture

Also in fashion are the wooden crates that shops would often chop up and burn or throw out!

And if you are lucky enough to have a large cable spool/reel then a quick brush over with some Annie Sloane paint and you got yourself a coffee table that will go nicely with your pallet wall ggmarion
