dishwasher advice please

I have had a few Bosch dishwashers my current has the cutlery tray which I do not like as it reduced the height of the top tray, you cannot put tea plates or wine glasses on the top as they are too tall, serving spoons and long knives are also problematic as the cutlery tray height is very small. I wish I had gone for the standard basket again.
The wash is fine.

I had a complete kitchen refurbish a year ago, and became the proud owner of my very first dishwasher! I chose all new appliances from Siemens, including an integrated d/washer, which has been brilliant (although I have nothing to compare it with). It has the cutlery tray in the top, and a light shone on the floor when in operation.
I don't think you can go wrong in choosing a Bosch/Siemens/Neff - they all come from the same umbrella company.

I've had my Bosch slimline for 11 years and it's still working well (touch wood). But I must confess to a certain wicked envy of my friend's more recent Miele with the top cutlery tray.

My DD has a Neff (they all come under the Bosch umbrella now I think) with a top cutlery tray and she is very happy with it. I have a Neff without the top cutlery tray and I am very happy with it.

My son has a Bosche, it has an upper cutlery tray and the timer is shone onto the floor.....very impressive!

I think I'm on my third dishwasher now - we've been in here over 30 years so the memory is a bit shaky! The first one was integrated but can't remember what make, the second one was Philips and was fine but we changed the kitchen last year so now have a Bosch and it's very good. I've never seen one with a cutlery rack in the top tray.

Our Bosch slimline will be 16 in January!

Siemens here, we love it. Before that had Zanussi, it ran for years and years, fell to pieces in the end.

I've had a Miele dishwasher for ages (nearly 15 years now) and would recommend them. I have an integrated one, with the cutlery tray. It's given perfect service, cheap to run and I cannot fault it. It has a quick wash which I use most of the time - takes about an hour to wash and dry. It's nice and quiet too.
Yes, you can always buy cheaper than Miele but for me, it's not the cost, it's the value. They are built to last 20 years and mine doesn't feel old, even though I suppose it is. I would look out for offers, they do sometimes give a 10 year parts and labour guarantee which I think says it all. The only problem you might have is once you have one Miele appliance, you'll want to replace all your others!

Another vote for Bosch...

I've previously had a Zanussi and one whose brand I can't remember - poss Morphy Richards?? They were both OK, lasted about seven years each without major problems. I'm now into my second Bosch and they're far and away better than the others. The first Bosch was 10 years old and still going strong so I gave it away when we moved. The current one is around 2 years old and does an excellent cleaning job. Any rejects are usually down to poor loading on our part. No hesitation in recommending the brand.

A good place to look is on the John Lewis site.....the reviews can be very helpful. Also 'Good Housekeeping' rates white goods regularly.

I have a Bosch but I suppose that it is quite elderly now being around 5 years old. My only grumble is that there is no way of me knowing how much longer it has to run.

I would google and read the reviews. Some are an eye watering price and I do not think that it is necessary to pay so much.

If you do not need it now I would research and then wait for the January sales.
