Gas hob

I have at the moment a "Stoves" gas hob, but one back burner has now completely given up. We've been in touch with Stoves who reckon it needs a new part and that an engineer needs to call and a) assess and b) fit a new part !! Methinks that is going to be costly and so have been looking at getting a new hob.

I don't really want another one like I have now, and so I wondered if any of you good people can recommend a replacement ? A hob you are happy with?

I don't like the cast iron pan supports, and not overly keen on the stainless steel, but have read that black will show the marks even more .

Unfortunately I have to have gas... ideally would love a ceramic hob, but not got enough power.

I have gone bog - eyed looking at hobs all afternoon on line hmm.

Any ideas please?

No idea, we have a range cooker and I love the cast iron! Just be very, very careful about the size as they change over time and are not standard.

I have a Neff gas hob and have had no complaints. The black pan supports don't show the dirt, in fact they rarely get cleaned! I wouldn't have anything other than gas as it is so instant.

We have a range cooker, too, with very heavy black cast iron pan supports on the hob. They are difficult to clean and look awful when the sun shines on them if they are not really clean. We are currently changing our kitchen and I'm going for a ceramic hob next time. Much easier to clean. I'd steer clear of the black if I were you, Sheena.

I had a gas hob in my last house with black enamelled pan supports and hated it. No matter how fastidious you were, they never looked really spotless. DD had one with cast iron ones and she hated that! I now have an induction hob. Very fast, and just a whisk over with a soapy cloth and clean as a new pin. That does not help you if you have to have gas, though.

Black hobs, ideal, they do not show the dirt. I haven't got time to be constantly cleaning my cooker to perfection.

Mind you when the cooker needed attention the engineer did comment how clean my cooker was compared with many he visited. Probably because I keep the oven clean and wipe the base of the oven every time I use it.

Hated gas hobs and I would rather starve than have another one grin
