I'm finding it hard to find good quality bath mats. The ones I really like are £65 for the mat and £45 for the pedestal mat. Will have to save very hard for these but will only want to look at but not use at that price. Anyone got any ideas for me to find good quality but cheaper mats. Thanks.

Oh Ann please don’t be upset by these comments, it’s not worth it. You do what’s right for you and DH day in and day out and you deserve bouquets not brickbats. flowers

Annsixty, I’m very upset that you have been upset by some comments. Please don’t get stressed over other people’s opinions, you’ve got quite enough on your plate as it is.

If it’s any consolation, I have used pedestal mats all my married life and shall continue to do so. I still can’t see how they can be considered unhygienic - as I said before, you don’t eat off them. It is a personal preference and each to their own. I couldn’t care less what anybody else thinks. My bathrooms, my choice smile

Oh how I wish I didn't involve myself in such innocuous threads which impact on my personal circumstances.
I know I am far too sensitive.

I got a lovely grey set for the shower room which match the colour of the carpet from Dunelm.

Annsixty I personally think they are needed in a bathroom it seems as though we are in the minority but don't worry I will carry on using them. One day others might realise how much they are necessity of life.

Ann please do not be upset, I for one never gave your circumstances a thought- I was thinking only of myself. as there is only me here.

Please don't be so nastily dismissive of toilet pedestal mats.
You may find one day you will realise the necessity of them.
I am really upset by this.

I have about 6 mats, all are heavyweight ribbed cotton in different patterns, in either white or charcoal. They are gorgeous and have often been used as a cover on my coffee table.... or as a runner on a bigger table to set a vase of flowers on (straight from being laundered, I add).

They've all been picked up in charity shops for a couple of £ each and it's quite possible that they are meant to be table covers/runners.

Because of their size, which would be larger than a standard bath mat, some of them get in the way when opening the bathroom door so as a rule the mat in use sits folded over the side of the bath and is put down for showers/baths.
The floor is charcoal tiles and I only use the one mat at any time.

I keep a small microfibre mop head with an extending shaft in the hot press down the side of the hot water tank, and this is wonderful for a quickie wipe around the bathroom floor if needed, just a spray of Flash and a quick shuftie with the mop... £1 from Pound Shop.

The mat/rug from Dunelm in my lounge didn't even cost anywhere near £65.

Thanks for all your suggestions I have waited 12 years for the bathroom to be done up, last room, we moved in the bungalow October 2005 spent a lot as it was in a right state but it was in the right area and cheap. I will hunt away as I'm very fussy over the colours and after all these years no rush.

Wilko’s Have great selection...Also Dunhelms and John Lewis . I never pay more than £10. There bath mats for gods sake. Anybody pays £65 needs their head looked at!!

I've had my Ikea bathmat longer than I can remember. It's a large size and has been washed many times, though it takes an age to dry, as it has a non-slip backing that might melt in the tumble drier. Before BHS went out of business, I bought a set in brown and beige shades. A good bargain as they wash and show no signs of wear.

Overthehills Sat 27-Jan-18 16:02:06

I have five shower/bath mats and change them often but, apart from the Ikea ones the others are so old I can’t remember where they came from - they’re still going strong though and certainly didn’t cost anything like £65! But, as someone else said, if you want to spend that much and can afford it, why not? (Won’t you need at least two though, for washing?)
As for toilet mats - never say never Maryhoffman you don’t know what’s around the corner ...

If you're not snobbish, Primark do some good ones which come in two thicknesses/styles and a range of colours. £4. I like them a lot.

GabriellaG Sat 27-Jan-18 15:33:44

I like to wash mine weekly so I like lots of different ones to go outside shower and along bath. I don't have a toilet with a pedestal, it juts out from the wall. Bought 2 from JL and 2 from M&S in sales last year (sold in packs of 2) M&S were £12 and JL's were £10. If they're too thick and heavy they are just absorbing the water and smelling, like damp towels. To pay £45 and £65 is, IMO, ridiculous.

maryhoffman37 Sat 27-Jan-18 14:49:29

We get ours from John Lewis and would never dream of a "pedestal mat"! Horrid things.

Esspee Sat 27-Jan-18 14:36:22

I cringe when I see anything other than a washable floor anywhere near the toilet bowl.
Bath mats are bought with the towels and last forever if you buy good quality. Change towels and mat twice a week.

HootyMcOwlface Sat 27-Jan-18 13:58:32

I have a mat by the toilet. If you need to visit in the night its nice to have a bit of comfort on your bare feet if you have a cold vinyl floor.

Kim19 Sat 27-Jan-18 13:27:42

Yes Solitaire I have a fully carpeted bathroom even to the extent of cladding the bath. Why? It looks warm. It feels warm. I love it. OK? Further answer to the opening question. Yes I would pay £65 for a bath mat if I really wanted it and could afford it. Fact is I've never seen one for that price and am totally happy with the cheapie I have.

JanaNana Sat 27-Jan-18 12:35:05

Most of the larger supermarkets sell inexpensive bath mats which can be washed in the towel wash and dry quite quickly. I only use bath mats and have,nt had a toilet pedestal mat for years since have easily washable bathroom floor, which is quickly done most days.

Camelotclub Sat 27-Jan-18 12:25:37

I found some nice ones in Poundstretcher (note not a pound shop). Why pay more?

sarahellenwhitney Sat 27-Jan-18 12:08:56

I buy cheap ones, usually a couple at a time, one set in the wash and one in use and find they last even with frequent washing. Don't bother with a toilet seat cover.

grannybuy Sat 27-Jan-18 12:08:07

Mats round the toilet are good if there are a lot of males in the household. They can be washed daily if necessary.

Solitaire Sat 27-Jan-18 11:54:15

Does anyone have carpeted bathroom/toilet and if so why???confusedhmm

Sheilasue Sat 27-Jan-18 11:54:12

Got mine from good old BHS. Still going well and get plenty of washes as well.

Bellasnana Sat 27-Jan-18 11:50:27

Why are mats around the loo unhygienic? You aren’t going to eat off them. I have them, two sets for each bathroom, so they get washed and swapped frequently.

Love Dunelm but we don’t have them in Malta.
