I heard that paramedics summoned to help 'ladies of a certain age' when they have fallen in the snow use the call sign "Nan Down" ......... smile

I was Nan Down at 7am this morning when I went out into garden early to fill bird feeders. I then went back to bed to nurse my wounds- well more my pride really.
We have about 4" here in Surrey although the sun is now shining. -8 overnight.
I believe it will be OK today & then back again tomorrow.
The schools are closed & the children are loving it!

I should be at our seniors club this morning , but cancelled . The pavements are so slippy that I was afraid to venture out , even though it is only round the corner and accross the street , no intention of adding to the statistics !

I will be on Community First Responder duty later this week so I shall listen out for "Nan Down" from a paramedic.

In the past few weeks I have attended several patients who have fallen in the garden or out of bed. Just need a couple of ambulance crew to get them up again.

Only a light covering in my part of Oxfordshire. I put my Yaktrax onto my walking boots this morning for my daily walk. They work very well but are a devil to stretch over the sole with my stiff hands!

More snow fell overnight in London. I intend to stay indoors until at least Saturday. Like others, if I land on my rear I also cannot get up without help and it does not do joint replacements much good.
My cat does not understand that it is not quite so warm outside as it is indoors.

I like the term Nan Down. I was in that situation before Christmas but no damage. I have not been out since this cold snap came I have had a dreadful cough. Not too much snow here in Cheshire.

I use crampons and a walking cane and feel quite stable in the snow.

DH shortly to venture out and walk down to our surgery to get some test results. I hope the Doc manages to arrive too ?

whitewave is that a photograph you have taken? It is beautiful.

We ve had a lot, also very close to the sea gillybob and rarely getting any laying but there’s plenty today and a big ole thunder storm in the middle of it last night
Not seen any gritter lorries out, where are they?
I ve been a ‘Nan down’ and now scared stiff when I go out
I ve got some crampon things too and they are good the only problem is they feel very strange when you go on any bits that have been cleared a bit like walking with football boots on

We rarely see snow lying here on the NE coast (I live very close to the sea) yet it’s almost a complete “white out” this evening . The wind is howling and the snow is coming down like I don’t know what. Can’t image what tomorrow will bring. I’ve got to go to work ?

Very snowy in Northumberland. Heavy showers all day. I've been a "Nan down" before, so I'm being cautious, and haven't been out. It's Knit & Natter tomorrow though, so if it isn't to snowy I might venture out.
This is what our garden looked like earlier in the afternoon. There is rather more snow now.

I've just been salting my back steps which are already quite icy. There have been quite a few blizzards, even white-outs, with sunshine in between which melted the snow which has now become ice and very treacherous.

Greyduster; that's exactly what happened here in Derby when I had to pick DGS up from school. Couldn't believe this huge grey cloud that appeared!

grin Love Nan Down!

We've hardly had any snow in East Cambridgeshire so the Beast from the East is just a flurry in no hurry.

Farmor15 Tue 27-Feb-18 16:31:13

I find the compacted snow/ice very slippery and am nervous walking. But I bought those crampon- like devices (spikes on stretchy rubber that go onto shoes) a few years ago and then we didn’t have any snow. However, I was in Sweden in February visiting GC, used for first time and found them great. It snowed quite a bit and got compacted to ice but I felt quite confident walking.

Greyduster Tue 27-Feb-18 16:26:29

Latest of our showers. In coming and same view a minute or two later. Now back to blue sky.

Greyduster Tue 27-Feb-18 16:21:09

I’ve been a Nan Down a couple of times. Didn’t do a lot for my dignity as I couldn’t get myself up again. Like a stranded turtle!

nanaK54 Tue 27-Feb-18 16:16:17

Oh that made me laugh out loud - hmm not if I ever was a 'Nan Down' though grin

Luckygirl Tue 27-Feb-18 16:05:30

I quite like "Nan Down" grin

OldMeg Tue 27-Feb-18 15:59:40

Don’t fnd snow slippy, it’s the ice underneath it that’s my worry,

M0nica Tue 27-Feb-18 15:52:27

Even as I wrote the clouds were conspiring. It has been tipping down snow for the last half hour

whitewave Tue 27-Feb-18 15:49:47

We have crampon like devices for our boots. Bought them years ago and they are having their first outing.

Highly recommended
