Irons

Strangely enough I’ve just got back from buying a new iron at Argos. I went for a cheap Murphy Richards one with a 3 year guarantee. It has a Teflon sole plate and variable steam.
My last cheap Murphy Richards has lasted over 6 years.
The old one still works, but sometimes the thermostat plays up.

I bought my iron in JL last year. Looked at all the expensive ones and then settled for their own brand one. Think about £25. Best iron I have ever had.

I use an "own brand" steam iron from Sainsburys. Lightweight and efficient, it cost around £12 two years ago. Best iron I've ever had, (and the previous two were Bosch).

I just got a Tefal Smart Protect FV4970. I'm very pleased with this iron. Very lightweight.

I've got a Phillips Mistral iron. I've had it at least 20 years and the only thing wrong with it is that the light no longer works. I don't know what Phillips are like now though, but I can recommend this one.

Thank you, I will try and check my bank, I do have an account but do not think I had the card with me on that occasion.

I need one that is easy to store and lightweight as I have arthritis i my right wrist and thumb.

Marieeliz In the absence of a JL account see if you can find a payment on your bank or credit card records showing a payment to JL. That is why I shop at JL as they are usually pretty good and will replace or repair. Worth a shot anyway.
Bosch is pretty reliable though and it may well be as simple as the wiring having worked loose - or some such thing! Take it back to JL.

Just got as new iron myself and can recommend the one I have bought - it is a Phillips Easy Speed Plus cordless.

Two things I wanted, from experience of broken irons!, were a firm handle that is fixed at either end to the iron (rather than one end being free), and an easy connection between the iron and charging dock - some are really fiddly.

This one fitted the bill.

Marieeliz, do you have a John Lewis account? If so, I believe they now keep all your receipts "in a drawer" , so you could investigate that.

I can access old John Lewis receipts from my 'Kitchen Drawer' on their website. I don't know how whether that's because I use my JL card everytime. I suspect it is.

Can't help with the iron - mine has a tank!
