Grease on a cooker hood

Has anyone any tips for removing a build up of grease on a cooker hood? It's one of those chimney type ones, black. I do clean it (honestly) but somehow it has acquired a greasy film. We've tried various things, Cilit Bang grease remover, a grease removing spray from Wilkos, Mr Muscle etc to no avail. Any ideas would be welcome.

Thank you Ellan My DH said his mother used to use sugar soap but we were unsure whether it would mark the surface. Do you think it would be OK?

If it is ok to use, recommend you use just a little. It goes a very long way and you could be up to your eyes in foam.

Thank you. We will give it a go.

Have you tried Sticky Stuff Remover? It's citrus oil based, not toxic, smells nice, easy to use, and can be found in most supermarkets or from www.lakeland.co.uk/8976/Sticky-Stuff-Glue-Residue-and-Oil-Remover-250ml.
It cleans my cooker hood like new again. I always keep it in the cupboard it's useful for so many cleaning tasks.

A hot solution of biological washing powder will clean it off. You can also clean the wire mesh filter (if your extractor has that sort of filter) with the solution - just wash it in the sink in the solution - it takes seconds.

Elbow Grease from the Pound Shop. It’s yellow liquid in a clear spray bottle. Use it neat and then wash off. Best thing I’ve had recommended for years! ??

Thank you. I have plenty of ideas now!

I put the mesh filters in the dishwasher too

Leave the biological wash powder + water paste on for an hour then wash off with your marigolds and eye shields on

We are now armed with sugar soap, biological powder and Elbow Grease. I expect my hood to be grease free and gleaming this time tomorrow smile

Thank you everyone. The sugar soap (and lots of hard work by DH) did the trick!
