Floor to ceiling wardrobes and DUST

I have a similar type of wardrobes and have not experienced that problem. They were fitted when the house was built in 1988 and the floor has the original flooring and I bought runners to cover, which work well.

Lot of hassle and expenses to change. Vinyl silk paint or maybe paper the inside?

run your fingers down the walls and see if you get remnants of the paint/plaster on your fingers. I would also use vinyl silk if the walls are the problem. Bedrooms get a surprising amount of dust and maybe you have essential vents into your wardrobe. The vents prevent mildew so should not be covered

Maybe the carpet is old and deep down dusty

I had these on two walls in my bedroom I’ve lived with them for 20 yrs and have always hated them, so I’ve just had my GS’s remove them and decorate. Can’t say I’ve ever had a dust problem though but they were very handy to hoard ‘clutter’ oh my was there so much ‘stuff’ in the tops of those wardrobes.
Personally I’d get rid of them but that’s me, it’s made me get rid/donate loads and I love my new Ikea wardrobe and chests of drawers. Sorry I’ll shut up now ?
If only I could find someone who would like the five very large mirrored doors that are now in the driveway, they won’t fit in my car.

I feel your pain, katy! Our house is old and I think it's just years of accumulated dust.

tanith if you offer them on the local Freecycle I am sure it will go within days. Please make sure you mention that it will not fit in a car to stop some timewasters.

I advertised a large rug last year and a young girl turned up to take it home on a bus! That did not happen.

Dust!! It took me too many years to count before I understood the reason for spring cleaning.
Twas an outbreak of moths which taught me and that sandy dust at the bottom of the linen drawer was not sand at all but moth eggs.
Now ofcourse, after scrubbing and cleaning thoroughly, I line my drawers regularly and sprinkle lavender over my clothes. Don't we all.
There is a surprising amount of dust and grime in a bedroom.
I don't have fitted wardrobes but wondered if we should. After reading your posts I think not.

We've had a similar problem and have had new wardobes fitted (not because of the dusty clothes). The new ones are complete units with backs. Although the old doors were not large mirror ones like yours and were broken up and taken away, we sold our large, double-glazed patio doors online, someone turned up with a horse box, paid in cash and took them away.

Our clothes used to get dusty too. I put shoulder protectors over some of the hangers, some clothes gathered more dust over the shoulders than others, but it can be a faff.

Good tip nana, I will be getting wall storage in bedrooms, these new builds have hardly any storage. Yes backs, I need to make sure when I eventually get a quote.
