We've just got a new corner group from Harveys - it's got 3 recliners in it and is very different to our previous sofas with the loose back cushions. Admittedly that was very comfy but never looked tidy even though I plumped the cushions every morning and frequently turned them all round - we were also finding it more difficult to get out of. This one is very firm and it's taking some getting used to - husband is a big chap and looks a bit like a pea on a pod unless he reclines his seat a bit grin We were assured it would 'give' over time so I'm hoping that's the case - it does looks beautiful though!

The best sofas/ chairs are made in Long Eaton Notts.
There are a number of upholstery firms in the area, if you contact them they will Tell you your nearest stockist.
The advantage of this means that you will be dealing with a local retailer, you will be able to decide exactly what fillings you require in your cushions and some retailers will even arrange for you to have an appointment at the factory so you can see all the different options available to you.
This may cost a little bit more then going to one of the chains but ultimately you will get exactly what you want.

We got ours from either Dwell or Made, can't remember - we bought a lightshade from one and a sofa from the other!

We have had our 2 x leather sofa's for over 10yrs now we bought them from DFS they have fixed seating and sit slightly higher off the ground,I hate sofa's and chairs where you can't get up easily.
These have got to be the best buy we have ever made they look as good now as the day they arrived.
Laura Ashley and Next have some good sales and depending where you live Arighi Bianchi in Macclesfield do have a fabulous collection from different manufacturers well worth the visit.

True Gagagran although I would always get to a store to sit and loll around on them before actually buying!

I agree with Carolina55 about IKEA sofas. We got a 3-seater sofa plus 2 armchairs in the Ektorp range and absolutely love them. So comfortable, with deep seats (I have long legs) and washable removable covers. Well worth having a look at, if only online.

Recently bought sofas from M&S very happy as 40% off which made them very reasonably priced.

Our last sofas were one of each sort. The normal back one is well used but the cushion back is almost pristine as no one can get comfy on it.

Thanks everyone. Alima a pillow back or cushion back has a row of assorted size cushions instead of the standard back cushions. They look very nice but how do you keep them looking 'posed'? My last set was from a local store (Co-op) which l'd prefer and its been brilliant but sadly theyve closed the furniture section now and we dont have a John Lewis furniture dept near by. The search goes on folks.

I'd look at John Lewis and talk to the sales people there.

I’ve gone for ikea sofas (2 seaters) with an extra set of loose covers so that in a few years time I can have a change of decor without it costing a fortune. All told they cost around £1000 including delivery although we did have to put them together- not difficult as the first one took an hour and second only half an hour. They are really comfortable with nice deep seats for lounging!

I am very pleased with my DFS sofa and chair ( different styles) I also previously had some from John Lewis and G Plan but think G Plan styles not so nice now

Another Next sofa here. It was bought twelve years ago and sat on every day.

Our M&S still going strong after seven years. Got recovered by very good local firm- looks like newly bought. I also think local family firms give good service.

I got mine from a local firm; but what I really like about them is that the back cushions are not fixed. They are large plump cushions that you squeeze into a row to form the back of the sofas. The great thing is that you can move them about and make a very comfortable place to lie down for a nap! I can definitely recommend this design.

I always worry that a pillow back will mean having to rebuild it when you've been leaning against it.

Framilode Sun 10-Mar-19 22:13:55

Our John Lewis ones have firm seating.

tanith Sun 10-Mar-19 22:01:52

We bought from Gplan it’s very well built and comfortable, I don’t like pillow backs they always feel uncomfortable to me.

Alima Sun 10-Mar-19 21:46:23

We are very pleased with our Next sofas, sofa so good. Sorry, have no idea what a pillow back is.

tiffaney Sun 10-Mar-19 21:40:12

We want to buy a new sofa and chairs and would like some recommendations please. We want decent ones with firm seat cushions, not soft ones that will go saggy. So-fa (pardon the pun!), we've been to SCS DFS and Sofology (not impressed), haven't looked at Next or M & S yet. Also pillow back or standard back? would welcome any opinions.
