Valance Sheets

I also thought valances were old fashioned.

After eight months in front of full sized south facing windows, the fabric on my new (extremely expensive) bed competely faded and had started to shred.
Lesson learned.

Now that I know what it's called, I am on the case. Thanks to everyone for all your advice.

Personally, I think valances are dust gatherers...unless the sole purpose is to hide the rubbish under the bed.

There is a valance which sits under the mattress and you can use a fitted sheet over the mattress.
I've stopped using a valance because it's just something else to wash.
The duvet sits over the mattress and nearly covers the base.

I like 'dust ruffle'....

Here they are called dust ruffle or bed skirt or bed ruffle and are still used / sold - Some are placed below the mattress and some are long elasticized pieces of fabric that simply wrap around the bottom of the bed like a ruffled band -

Yeah, the fashion for metal/wooden bedframes with a headboard and footboard built into the frame has pretty much killed off valances.

If only I could KonMari under my bed more effectively...

I suspect platform valances are less easy to buybecause they have gone out of fashion. Look at beds in houses featuring in house magazines, you never see valances on beds now.

I used one under a mattress to hide the stuff under the bed for house viewings. It looked somewhat tidier

changed all my beds last year and they all have nice material finishes on the base that match the headboard ,so no need for the platform valances anymore.Thats a relief as my back doesn't like lifting matresses to get the valances in place

You need a valance, not a valanced sheet.

I no longer use valances at all Blinko but when I did I used to have platform valances which sit on the bed base (under the mattress). I think what you are looking for is a "platform valance".

I bought a new bed/ headboard set a couple of years ago and chose one with a plain dark grey base so I no longer need to cover it with a valance.

We used to have those, under mattress ones but now we have a bigger duvet than the bed which solves the issue and also means we both have plenty of duvet!

I know this one! Valance sheets are a bit of a fudge - they’re a sheet with an added frill to look like a valance.

To solve your problem You need a valence which goes under the mattress and then you use an ordinary fitted sheet on your mattress. Like you say the valance bit doesn’t need laundering quite so often.
