My old shed is collapsing and I am now panicking as a firm who came to give a quote said the roof may be asbestos it is a corrugated eye sore. They are going to come back with a quote for removal of wood bit of shed brambles and someone else to remove roof. The shed is about 7 x 4 ft. Has anyone else had asbestos removed and is it pricey? I told him I didn't want a cowboy who would fly tip it and then I find a photo of it on local FB page. They seem good reviews from Check a trade smile

Some of the cement sheeting looks very much like asbestos, but isn't. Ask your town council if they can advise on removal and disposal of the old roof and tell you whether it is asbestos or not.

To me it sounds as if the firm you have contacted aren't sure. Get another two quotations.

Disposing of Asbestos is a Very specialist business . Perhaps contact local authority for a list of approved contractors. Nowadays you would be held responsible if you employed someone less than scrupulous.

I was thinking of buying a house with a crumbling asbestos garage and got three quotes for dismantling and disposal. They all came in at around £700.

Your shed is much smaller and only the roof so should be cheaper.

It will depend on where you live and your councils attitude to charging for asbestos disposal.

Hope this gives you some idea.

some people fly tipped crumbling corrugated asbestos in a lane by here. The council are going all out to try and find the people who employed the rubbish removers. The original owners will end up paying a lot to get this stuff cleaned up properly by men in white suits with masks and gloves. Be careful, ring the council for an approved contractor

One of my sons had an old garage with an asbestos roof removed last year. The firm who did it were very professional and the charge wasn't exorbitant.

Do check the weather forecast, though! Ds was at home while it was being done. He looked up from his work and was horrified to see asbestos flying all through the air. He rushed down to find out what was going on, only to discover the Beast From The East had arrived! Phew! grin

Do check his registration...who its with etc. never just take their word. If its not disposed of properly you are just as liable under the new laws.
