Where do the holes in front of my tee shirts come from

I just cant work it out, so many of my tee shirts tiny holes appear in the front, nowhere else just the front on my waist line. I dont wear a belt so it isnt that. I am mystified I have so many teeshirts that have very little wear and ruined after only a few wears. Any ideas ??

Weak spot in the thread?
Also, when living abroad noticed that 5 y.o. son had a train of small holes leading from neck to bottom of his T shirt. This was then continued from waist band of his underpants to between his legs
I discovered it was caused by tiny ants which I finally observed trekking down his T shirt when he had left it on his chair. The damage stopped when he learned to be cleaner and tidier.

I will add it's only in recent years that it's happening, so I think it probably has something to do with the quality of the material.

Happens to my tees too. Just one tiny hole, usually. Can't work out what is causing it.

Definitely not moths. Car seat belt combined with jeans seems to be a good possibility.

Definitely a belt buckle in my case! I thought it was just me - can't believe how many of us have little holes in front of t-shirts at the waist! Amazing!

I’m still not sure whether mine are getting caught in the drum and it’s the thinner material ( like tee shirts) that suffer?

Eloethan Mon 22-Jul-19 10:17:06

Twiceasnice My husband also thinks it's inferior material.

Clothes moths are more likely to choose an area of fabric that is already a bit greasier with organic matter than the rest. So the front of the teeshirt, which brushes against tabletops and worktops, is a likely target.

I discovered mine were from the zip of a jacket that was snagging my tops.

I do wear a pinny Gransooz ( I have a large collection ) and I still get the holes ! I’ve ruled out buttons too as it’s always just above waist level .confused

Sleepygran Mon 22-Jul-19 10:05:18

Could it be from when you wear a handbag across your body?

TwiceAsNice Mon 22-Jul-19 09:54:35

I have them as well, and my daughter ( different houses) don’t know what causes them. I presume inferior material now I don’t remember it happening years ago when I was younger.

Whingingmom Mon 22-Jul-19 09:54:08

I found holes to be caused by the button of my jeans/ trousers and rubbing against kitchen worktops.

I’m relieved that’s it’s not just me that has this problem! Are much detective work my answer is that it’s my granite worksurface which has a flat edge rather than a bull nose. It’s the only thing the right height to make these holes. If I’m wearing a good top I now wear an apron, and use the holed ones for day to day lichen duties.

jacqui67 Mon 22-Jul-19 09:47:05

Hi all
I too have this problem but thought that the light weight item where being pushed into those tiny holes in the washing machine, but as Eloethan say why nearly always the front ????
What ever it is eats odd socks as well Grr.

Are any of you smokers? Dh used to get these little holes in his t shirts before he stopped smoking - hot ash was the culprit in his case

Allsaints55 Mon 22-Jul-19 09:43:22

Isn’t this moths . I have loads . T-shirt’s and cardis mainly !! Tiny holes

Pippa22 Mon 22-Jul-19 09:33:59

I thought the tiny holes were caused by bra hooks. I now put my bras in a laundry bag before washing so time will tell if this might be the solution.

annep1 Mon 22-Jul-19 08:11:15

I thought splashes of bleach? I use an apron all the time. I never have holes in any tops.

Urmstongran Mon 22-Jul-19 07:27:56

Same here with husband’s tees. Very strange!

mumofmadboys Mon 22-Jul-19 07:17:13

Happens to my sons the shirts too. Front and waist line.

BlueBelle Mon 22-Jul-19 07:03:18

Do you all shop at the same shop or live in the same area? I have never, ever heard anyone having holes in their clothes apart from genuinely catching them on something

BradfordLass72 Mon 22-Jul-19 03:21:00

Buy some pretty appliques and iron/sew them over the holes. And apply Lavender oil to a sponge or tissue and keep near your moth-tempting clothing.

Gransooz Mon 22-Jul-19 02:33:59

I have had them appearing at the front at tummy level on a few of my cashmere jumpers! I now know that it’s my lovely stone worktops. I tend to lean forward on to them when creating in the kitchen. (Havoc mostly). I now try to remember to pull my jumpers up out of the way, or wear a pinny! ?
