Thanks everyone. It’s a Russell Hobbs metal kettle. The coffee tastes ok just the tea that’s a bit off. Even changed the tea bags ! Maybe it’s the water, only been in this house just under a year so suppose it could be that. Brought the previous kettle from the previous house and that seemed ok. It was plastic. How much vinegar would I put in and which type. Have malt and white wine . Will try anything, it’s driving me mad !

I always put one of those little scale catchers from the hardware shop in.
£1 each and so efficient.

I find this with a lot of plastic kettles no matter what you do to them.
Is it metal or plastic?

I stupidly bought a really cheap kettle. I tried everything but nothing worked and I ended up taking it back as tea and coffee tasted foul! The more expensive one had the same issue but after boiling it with vinegar it was fine. Worth a try!

Did your previous kettle need descaling? The new one obviously won't, that could account for the different taste.

Hi. Got a new kettle about three weeks ago. Did the usual boiling it three times and emptying but think the water still tastes strange. Have twice repeated the boiling and added bicarbonate of soda and that seems to do it but then it comes back. My oh says he cant taste it but I can. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you
