Well you can still plan a holiday! You just can’t actually go anywhere......
It would be nice to blend a UK holiday with house hunting, go for long weekends and get to know the areas and see various houses at the same time, you can really get a feel for them then at different times of the day traffic wise, maybe get to know the locals?
Hope all goes well for you today Shandy in the olden days money wasn’t transferred until after noon, but I expect that will also have changed .

SueH49 Tue 26-May-20 09:45:42

The time of realisation is near for you Shandy. It is a wonderful feeling to know the transaction is completed when the money goes into your account.. Freedom. Do you have an allocated time for the payment? We did and had a call from the solicitor within a few minutes to say it had been paid.

The market is still stagnant here. Although we did have a call from an agent this afternoon about a place about to be listed and we will have a look on Thursday.

craftyone Tue 26-May-20 10:14:27

shandy mine came through around 3pm

Niobe Tue 26-May-20 10:38:20

Nearly there Shandy. You can have lots of little holidays soon looking at different places that you might want to move to!

Franbern Tue 26-May-20 11:51:14

When I moved from our family house to a nearby smaller house (just small chain of three), the money did not come through for me (top of the chain) until 3 pm - nearly drove myself and my daughter and son who were helping me - mad that day.

Was ready for similar timings this time (again three in chain - with me at top), but with a little chasing up by my lovely EA, it came through just before 2 pm.

I had a an electric door put on my garage here and absolutely love it. Worth every penny - and I also had to pay extra for the electrics to go down through the main building into that garage (no wiring permitted to be placed on exterior walls). I also had a double socket put on wall in garage, so I can charge my scooter in there.

Do you remember, that I told you of my carelessness in throwing a whole lovely banana milkshake on the floor a few weeks back. Although I mopped it up immediately, it left a bad stain on my light carpet. And, for a few days a smell. since then I have been regularly trying to get rid of that stain, carpet cleaner, steam cleaner, etc. I managed to get rid of the smell in about three or four days - but the stain was there . Other people said it did not notice - but it did to me. Have finally, this morning done the last carpet cleaner go at it - about fourth or fifth time I have done this - but it has now finally gone (to my satisfaction).

Eventually, I will be either replacing the carpet or else having good laminate flooring put down. At present I cannot think about that, and the whole job it will be having to pack everything up again and move furniture - so it will not be this year. Have to see how I feel next year.

Gorgeous weather, hope everyone is able to to take advantage of getting some good VIt d into them. Do hope this wonderful Spring does not mean a dreadful summer!!!

Whiff Tue 26-May-20 12:37:25

Glad you got rid of the stain Franbern.
In my old house we had laminated flooring downstairs. It's a good job. I made an open red salmon sandwich. My arm spasmed and plate and sandwich skidded across the floor
face down. Salmon spread over a wide surface. Could you imagine the stain and smell if it had been carpet. Didn't bother with an open sandwich again.

Shandy57 it was about 3.30 when the money came through as I was last in the chain. But at least it will be with you today and that's the main thing. Chin up a whole new future awaits you. Enjoy every minute of it.

SueH49 hope the viewing goes well on My Thursday.

Shandy57 Tue 26-May-20 12:43:39

Champagne time everyone!

Three cheers and grateful thanks to you all for accompanying me on this hellish journey, which has ended up with me selling to a devil. But I have my freedom, which I appreciate is priceless. I will be making the very most of the life I have left, wherever that may be.

Love and hugs to you all, huds for Whiff xx

Franbern Tue 26-May-20 12:52:46

CONGRATULATIONS - it really all is in the past now. Deep breaths, some celebration and then onward and forward.

In my last house, which was a mid- terrace 1930's house. I had the loft done so that g.children could sleep up there, but that was just shut off most of the time. Small bedroom was my office, so I had my own bedroom and a good sized spare double room. Ground floor was open plan, through lounge, long galley kichen running direct from entrance hallway. I did have a small utility room built at end of that.

For years, one of my daughters kept telling me that the house was MUCH too big for me. I pointed out that with the exception of that loft bedroom, I lived in ALL of the rest each day, However, she was adament .......this was from about ten years ago, even when I was still in employment!!!

Children = even highly intelligent adult ones, do see things in very different ways.

Shandy, your daughter is doing her own thing - hopefully right for her. You need to take that on board and do your own thing - with a lot more experience to know what is going to be right for you. Believe me, she will come round in due course, and feel rather silly at her attitude now.

SueH49 Tue 26-May-20 13:06:54

Yeah Shandy. Now you can forget about "the station" for any legal reason it is no longer your problem. Just remember the good times and now you are totally free to do as you please and when.

Sugarpufffairy Tue 26-May-20 13:34:54

Just read some of this very long thread. I am so glad that your sale has gone through and the money is in the bank.
I hope you will have the most amazing time with your new freedom.

Ellianne Tue 26-May-20 13:49:27

Congratulations Shandy. It will all be so worth it!

Niobe Tue 26-May-20 13:59:34

Chewbacca Tue 26-May-20 14:08:01

Congratulations Shandy, you've put the worst but behind you and have only a great future to look forward to. flowers

Whiff Tue 26-May-20 14:36:49

Shandy57 huds and kisses to you. You are free. Think for your the things you would like to do you have never done before. We are never to old to learn new things. Be selfish and think of your needs and wants first for once. When I did that I thought I would feel guilty but I felt free and at peace. Since moving here I have felt the happiness that I had when my husband was alive. No one is dependant on me anymore. I started to feel that way after my mom died. But only truly felt it when I knew on the 9th August the bungalow was mine. Even though what my son has done. It will not break me. You like everyone on this thread are strong women. When you think of all the things we have collectively been through and still going through. We may bend but not break.

A huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders and you did it on your own. Enjoy your day. But you now have the money to look for your new home. Good hunting.

Katyj Tue 26-May-20 14:49:28

At last Shandy it has all finally come together. Onwards and upwards now. Congratulations and I hope that you soon find a new property in whichever part of the UK you decide to settle.

Oopsadaisy3 Tue 26-May-20 15:29:44

I’m so pleased for you Shandy, now you can breathe, I’m sure that today you might have a bit of a wobble, but you did what was right for you, good luck with the next phase.
We are all dotted over the country and I’m sure we are all ready to help you look for somewhere new.............. just when you thought you would get some peace!

GrandmaMoira Tue 26-May-20 15:33:59

Congratulations Shandy.

spottybook Tue 26-May-20 16:25:02

BRILLIANT NEWS Shandy. What a relief for you, no more cold winters and expensive maintenance work. Good luck with the hunt for a new property.

midgey Tue 26-May-20 17:06:47

craftyone Tue 26-May-20 18:31:56

oh shandy, big hugs to you and tonight I am opening that little bottle of sparkly fizz that I have been saving for this very special day.flowers

The worry will stay in your mind for a bit (psd) but it will go away and you will be able to start your new life, as whiff says, being happy, I am another who is truly happy now. It is possible, believe in yourself

craftyone Tue 26-May-20 18:38:52

my new pegboards are up and I never want a job as hard as that again. No template, measured over and over, had to use special good plugs so could not see to find the screw holes behind. 70 cm x 40 cm boards side by side to the window, so much measuring and then the big powerful heavy drill slipped a bit. Very thick beech ply.

I am looking forward to sorting that room tomorrow. Eating now then concrete dust, plaster dust, lumps of plaster to clean and a basic tidy so it is ok to start tomorrow. I put 3 boards up, so heavy

painkillers tonight, neighbour said they would have helped, er no. I saw aljazeera at lunchtime, so many are relapsing badly after corona, weeks later. Not taking any risks and these neighbours are not so conscientious

Grammaretto Tue 26-May-20 19:23:24

Congratulations Shandy !!
A lovely new adventure beckons.
Good luck!

GrannySomerset Tue 26-May-20 19:24:58

Hurrah for Shandy the Brave, and here’s to a future entirely of her own choosing! Such good news to cheer up these very trying times.

Shandy57 Tue 26-May-20 20:23:55

Thank you very much everyone, it is so nice of you all to write and wish me well. I did go past the house and no-one has moved in yet.

I've had a marvellous beach walk with my dog in the sunshine, and will be looking at booking airbnb's in the areas I like for future exploration. Eastbourne is out - my neighbours moved here from Haywards Heath and said getting anywhere from there takes forever.

A toast to you all tonight with my Magnum ice cream (I don't drink), and huge thanks to craftyone for starting this thread smile
