So I’m organising a small gathering for our family reunion and is now planning the final touches. I’m thinking of adding some tapered candles from this online shop I saw online as centrepieces or accents. But since I’m not a fan of candles, can you give me some tips on how to choose the best ones? Your replies will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Not an expert on candles, but I do know that if you pop them in the freezer for an hour before burning, they will last longer.

How many candles will you need?

Four is a good number.

Taper candles tend to be about the level of people’s faces and can impede conversation. Tea lights in holders work better. You can get a set of 5 tea light holders from Ikea for under £5. Or get floating candles and put them in a pretty glass bowl. Either way, don’t get scented ones because they mess with the taste of the food.
