new carpets

When I had carpet in my living room and my computer was housed there I bought a large sheet of thick plastic and when I moved everything into my newly tiled kitchen the sheet of plastic came too although I doubt there will be too many dips in my ceramic tiles!

Thats good to know for future reference.ie fitters moving furniture.

We’ve just had our lounge and hall carpeted recently by a national company. For an extra £10 they removed and replaced all the furniture.

cabbie 21, my suggestion is the same as kittylester’s, there is an independent carpet shop near us and they advertise that they will move and replace furniture for senior citizens before and after fitting the carpet. If you have an independent carpet shop in your area they may do this to get the business, it’s worth asking.

We have just had the lounge carpeted and only had to take the easily moveable le stuff out. The fitters did the rest. We used a local firm not a national company.

I don't know what Karndean is Cabbie21 but I imagine if you are laying wood or tiles it would be doable if you have someone on hand to help move things back and forward.

I had a similar problem with an office chair on castors. I bought a rug in a jute-like material, in a similar colour to the carpet, and put the chair on that, which seemed to avoid wear and wrinkling of the cheap cord carpet.

Our living room carpet needs replacing but there is no way we can clear it completely. Four small bookcases makes for a lot of work but is manageable, but then there is a sofa bed and two armchairs, a piano and a cabinet full of cds, hi fi stuff Etc. All too much for us now and nowhere to put it all . I wonder if it would be possible to lay Karndean a bit at a time, without clearing the whole room.

The Ikea plastic sheet worked well for us. Worth a try if they still sell it, you can still move the chair easily on it.

Go o Amazon and type in carpet protectors they do a variety from mats to castor cups.

Illte OH is the same. I go in for a quick vacuum once a week and try not to look.

I don't like saying this will be the last time. Next time you could order the carpet and get them to fit one room at a time and spread the job out.

IKEA do a big sheet of clear plastic for just that purpose.

You can buy things to go under the wheels and under sofas etc .Sadly i can`t remember what they are called.
