Selling general items at auction

Having successfully moved we are still unpacking hundreds of boxes---no exaggeration.
There are many things that we really don't need.
How do I go about selling at auction?

I have already donated to charity shops, but these are the sort of things I have seen on auction programmes on tv. Not antiques, but bits and pieces at least 40 years old.

Find your nearest auctioneers (a quick Google search should find them) given a call and ask for their advice.

They should be able to tell you wether the items should go into a "general" sale, antiques & collectables.

Good luck!

You will pay a 20% commission to the auction house.
Could you sell via Gumtree, or Facebook?

I do all mine on eBay or local selling sites much easier and less to pay out

It's worth checking out a few auctioneers - we go to auctions often (or did) and some auction houses seem to sell mainly antiques and some sell a lot more general/vintage stuff as well as antiques.
It's also worth checking whether you will be charged if it doesn't sell. Some auctioneers will just put it into the next sale if you want them to, some will charge for each sale attempt.
