Thanks Nono. Good shout about meter readings. New property has a smart meter - something new for me!

Good luck in your new home. How exciting. You might want to take a photo on your mobile of the meters' reading .... just for the record, on the day you move in. Your first bill should reflect that reading as your personal starting point.
Once you've settled in use one of the comparison websites to possibly choose a new supplier but there'll be no rush. Don't worry, you'll have a supply.

Thank you NonnaLor. I was wondering how it worked.

Howjado I’m shortly moving to a new build where the builders set up the utility accounts then they read meter(s) the day I move - I can then decide to stick with that suppliers or switch to one of my choosing .

I am hoping to move into a brand new bungalow next year. I expect to have electricity, water, gas etc from day one of course, but do I need to set up contracts with the different suppliers before I move?
