I’ve got an old Miele cylinder vac, the suction on it is still amazing after about 10 years, I use it for hard floors and stairs, and when I want a really thorough clean on the carpets too, although it’s hard work on carpet.
I’ve got a Shark pet cordless as well which is for quick cleans. It’s great on carpet, but very poor on the stairs, and not brilliant on hard floors either. My only other criticism of the Shark is that I find it heavy as the motor is on the handle, which makes my arm ache if I use it for more than a few minutes at a time.
After much research we got my mum who’s in her nineties a G-tech, which is much lighter to use as the motor is in the base, and still does a good job.
If I had lots of money I’d try a new Miele cordless next time, but they are about £400 so I’d need to try it out first.
