I have a small garden and the neighbours at the end have decided to put a hot tub right up against the fence. Its nowhere near their back door and have also turned their garage into a drinking hole.
I'm not very happy about it and after only living here a year am now considering moving. I could do with downsizing but when the grandchildren come it is nice to have the downstairs space. I don't know what to do? Any advice?

You could plant something that will grow fast over fence or trellis so that you can't see them. If you choose something that drops lots of leaves or flowers into their hot tub they might decide to move it nearer the house.

Willow 73. How far is the fence from your house? Also if you only lived in this house a year why didn't you down size when you moved there! Do you live on your own or do you have partner?

My son lived with us and we thought it would be a long time before he left but he managed to get a mortgage during covid that was a really good bargain. The fence is about 12 feet away. Its not seeing them but hearing them thats the problem our bedroom and lounge are on the back of the house.

Play music while they are in the tub. Drown them out.

I don't think there's anything you can do about this though it must be annoying.
Try not to let it make you miserable.
It will only make things feel even worse if you focus on it too much.

I sympathise Willow and it can really affect your quality of life.
This summer new, close neighbours of ours acquired a big above-ground swim pool that filled their lawn and their sons were horse-playing and shouting in it for hours as the weather was so warm.
It wouldn’t make me move house as unless you go somewhere remote it can happen almost anywhere.

If you think that's bad try living next door to a chain smoker who stands outside their door very close to my ground floor bedroom window chuffing away! I can never have the bedroom window open without the stink of stale smoke permeating throughout the room! ????

It’s so thoughtless of that person PollyDolly. It’s a horrid smell to a non-smoker and clings to everything.

Ironically, he doesn't smoke in his own home as he doesn't want it to smell of stale smoke! ?‍♀️ Even had the gaul to moan about our BBQ, which we always move away from the building when in use but that might be because we didn't offer him a burger, hot dog or chicken leg!

Its lovely to have neighbours, good ones. A tree, like a cherry tree which blossoms in spring and leaves that fall in autumn. They will soon move the hot tub if they are forever cleaning the water of blossom and leaves. Much kinder way to do it. Or get into the hot tub with them, I once had a neighbour who pretended she had dementia and they often found her in their conservatory. It wasnt long before they moved.
