Loose covers or not?

I’m looking at new sofas and fancy a chesterfield but not leather. I’ve always had washable loose covers but can’t find a fabric chesterfield with removable covers so I’m wondering how people keep their fabric sofas clean? We have a cat and a dog.
I don’t want to invest in an expensive item which gets grubby and can’t be cleaned.

I thought that a Chesterfield was by definition leather?
I've got pets and leather sofas and I would never have fabric now.
So much more practical.

we have pets and have two sofas with removable covers and two leather sofas. I do like being able to wash the covers. We had replacement loose covers made last year which cost as much as buying new sofas. Good hunting!

I bought a leather chesterfield and did find the back too low, plus the button holes seemed permanently filled with fluff!

I do recommend the Tetrad range, they have both leather and fabric.

Good luck with your search. I had to leave all my furniture behind when I moved into a tiny cottage, I'm rather taken with the yellow sofa I've just seen on TV.

I have a cat and I have throws which are obviously easily removable and easy to pop in the washing machine.

Agree - Chesterfields are leather.

We've got a leather sofa but put a throw on it for the dog and myself. It's freezing cold to sit on it in winter first thing in the morning. We're totally reliant on a log burner.

Next sofa will be loose covers.

We have just purchased a Chesterfield style sofa in a duck egg blue velvet - absolutely gorgeous . The shop called it a Chesterfield.

I have a sofa with pale yellow loose covers by Plumbs.
They come off easily and wash beautifully, which has been a godsend since we’ve had small grandchildren.

Shandy just a word of warning - never purchase a bed, armchair or sofa just on its looks. Do ensure that you have the chance to sit on them and try them out. After all, that is their main purpose - to be sat/lied down on.

Already learnt that lesson Franbern, I bought a Thomas Lloyd on line for the self catering accommodation, only sofa that would fit here in the cottage. No bottom space and definitely not for sleeping on!
