Sofa

Gagajo a friend of mine has recently brought a new sofa from Next. She said she was spoiled for choice. Wide range of types and colours. She went for a high back one. My 3 piece suite remember when it was called that. Is G plan. It's over 25 years old and is terracotta . It's still as good as when we brought it. Still remember how much it was £1,200 . My late husband hide the price label as he knew I wouldn't want it at that price but quality lasts. My brother and sister in law have just brought a Parker Knoll 3 piece high backed suite that was nearly £4,000. If you can afford go for the good old manufacturers. Bridgecraft is another good make. My daughter's was from Habitat that is very good but has low back. Wayfair and Made have a wide choice.

At least being able to look on line gives you a wide choice and they have plenty of information about the products. There is such a lot of different styles and huge variety of colours nowadays. Have fun looking.

GagaJo, if you still like your sofa, why not have it reupholstered?

I had fitted covers made for my kitchen one. After all, it's main use is - a cat and/or dog bed.

We have just bought an Ercol corner unit - we love it - it is grey but it does come in other colours.

John Lewis have a huge range of sofas in different styles that can be covered in the vast range of fabrics they have .
Varying price ranges .
Very happy with the two we bought last year when they had a 20% off event .

Whatever you do buy please make sure you can get it into your house because somebody in soop's kitchen is having one awful job trying to get hers in the front door so it has returned twice I think to be taken apart and hopefully put together in her house but that is costing an extra £200.

You can um and ah all you like GagaJo but grey often wins out in terms of fashion and practicality. I don't like brown either, it's too masculine. Have you considered ochre which I call mustard?
My one piece of advice would be to order early. Delivery dates for the likes of Next, M & S and John Lewis seem to be taking forever.
If you can't decide, buy a mixture like this, though the grey is by far the favourite and purposely chosen to go opposite the tv. You can accessorise with contrasting cushions.
And please note the dog has his own comfy bed (zoom to upper left of photo)!

We have had our sofas for 17.5 years and they are still in great condition and really comfortable.

They are Abbey leather sofas from Marks and Spencer, in cream. They are easy to clean and can cope with three cats! Younger family member have slept on them, very comfortably.

We bought them in the sale with 30% off and saved about £1200. We also used M&S interest free credit arrangement and paid them off over 24 months.

Cream means it’s easy to change the look of the room with new cushion covers, rug and lamp shades.

I am considering black. I have one black, basic sofa now. But that is the 'guest' sofa. I also want a comfy, lolling sofa for myself, despite liking clean modern lines.

I might go for black with a white throw and large white cushions.

GagaJo unless you can get to the store and try it out how do you know it will be a comfy lolling sofa that suits you? You could wait until lockdown is over and as the current sofa is in good nick jazz it up with some bright cushions or a throw. I wouldn’t bother to reupholster as not sure it’s cost efficient.

It is very difficult to go to a store and try out the sofas for comfort. They simply don't stock all the ranges. It's madness! I ordered from Next last summer, it took 16 weeks to deliver, then had to send them back within 7 days because they weren't comfortable and the style dwarfed the room. No quibbles money back, nearly £2k.
I felt quite guilty but there was nowhere within 500 miles I could go to see the design, actually nowhere in the UK!

Black is classy, does it show the dirt?

Ours is a pale heather colour which seems to go with everything its from DFS.

Our grey is in room with deep raspberry walls, flowered pink, purple and cream curtains, a few cushions to match the curtains and a few deep pink cushions.

Delivery is a pain. We need a couple of armchairs but certainly don't want them to match. We have ordered twice from JL and been given delivery times of 17 weeks. Both times, at week 15, we have been told that they are no longer available. We now have a different grey Ercol chair on order and a pink velvet Parker Knoll. Fingers crossed.

Our room. We think it is warm and welcoming especially with the remains of the Christmas chocs there! The cat quite likes it too.

I don't want to comment on what colours, style etc you should go for as to me that's purely a personal choice. However I would comment that we have recently in the last 6 weeks received 2 x sofas in dark navy from M & S and would NEVER purchase sofas again from them. We had terrible issues with delivery and since we got them merely a few weeks ago both sofas now have indentation marks of where we sit on an evening. The quality is very poor and we are extremely disappointed with them. Paid a lot of money for them too. Just a word of warning but perhaps we were just unlucky but worth looking into. Good luck on whatever decision you make.
