I was stuck in the house unable to reach car due to ice and snow ( terrified of falling due to new knees !)
So looked up alternatives to sand on a household tip site .
Hurrah , I mixed up salt with cat litter and threw it generously down the path, steps and pavement . It worked a treat until things thawed today - I now live on Porridge Drive and it's just as slippery as the ice was !! smile

Yes, it's lethal and follows you indoors too like superglue !

Or cement.

Oh no, that sounds horrible! How about cardboard next time?

I just used cheap table salt which worked fine. Just be careful if you have lawn or flowerbeds adjoins the path as salt will kill them.
What I do use cat litter for is in the car for absorbing condensation. I fill an old sock, seal with a rubber band and leave on the dashboard.
