Rugs for living room

The anti slip matting I've always used is from IKEA. It comes in a roll and is wider than any of the others I've tried. It also seems to have a much better non slip factor than some of the more expensive ones I've used too.

Whatever you use, treat it with Scotchgard when it’s new. It helps to prevent stains in the long term.

Thanks for the replies. I am very aware of slipping problems. Before I moved into this flat, 15 months ago, I had Amtico flooring in my through lounge and a couple of rugs.

Glad that wool is the most recommended - the rug I like best is wool (it is also the most expensive), and I will now go for that.

So, anyone got any good recommendations for anti-slip mats to go under this. I tried various things in my house, and none were really successful

I'm desperate to have a colourful half moon rug under my new built-in fire atop my new (but plain) carpet. However, the constant reminder of the tripping possibilities, even for the sure footed, is deterring me. Please, think on.......

We have various oriental rugs on floors, some wool others manmade, and have to say they have all stood the test of time
Equally well, both in wearing well and in cleaning stains off them.
All oriental rugs seem to last forever and you can hardly see a stain because of the pattern ?I love them.The manmade ones won’t attract moths.

Rugs are a risk as you get older.

I had a beautiful large rug on my laminate floor in my living room but 2 years ago I had to remove it because it was fairly thick, I tripped on a corner of it and broke a bone in my foot so I was in a below-knee plaster for weeks.

Wool every time. It's warm soft and natural .
What comes out of your vacuum will be biodegradable , even compostable. Get the non slip under mat, you will glad that you did, especially if you have dogs skidding about like I do!

I don't know what a tradespeooke is but I do know what a tradespeople is.

Same as curlywurly; wool every time for the same reasons. I paid quite a lot for a pure wool rug about 10 years ago and despite pets, grandchildren, assorted tradespeooke and visitors, it's still like new. Can I also give a gentle reminder to order some non slip matting to go under your new rug? Whichever rug you choose will move slightly when placed on Karndean so you'll need something to hold it in place.

Wool every time for me. I find man-made fibres tend to hold any stains, whereas stains on wool are much easier to clean.
