Was just reading in a mag, that most people move 11 times in their lifetime, counted mine and it’s 9 , anticipate one more move downsizing( married Twice )

I know it’s an old thread, but anyway

3 before 18, about 30 as an adult, counting my boat as one, although I lived in several places on her.

Definitely one more planned in the near future, and there may be at least one after that if my husband dies while I am still healthy and mobile, which now seems more likely than ever, as I would move abroad again then.

12, many when I was small and we moved around for work reasons. Now happily settled here in the county I regard as home, though it is neither my birth nor my childhood place, just where I feel I belong. May move house again but not county or country.

About 25, both here and abroad.

20 times, 11 years in this house (I’m 61). I envy people who live their lives in roughly the same area as they always have. Moving schools and having few friends has done me no favours. But I now live in a lovely town, not where I want to be, but it’s very pleasant so I can’t really complain.

First move from grans house inner city to outskirts four years old. Lived with my family until I was 26 to a flat nearby for 1 yr to save up for first house.
Moved about five miles away to first house didn’t settle well stayed there just 4 yrs. When my son was about 6 months old moved back near my parents I was homesick.
Stayed there about ten yrs moved ten minutes away to a house with room for my two growing children. We have been here about 24 yrs don’t expect to move again I had five moves in all that’s enough for me.

If you count all our Army quarters, 11. Longest stay was in our first house after DH retired from the Army. We were there 31 years. We’ve been in this house coming up for thirteen years.

Ten, I think. Forty years in my last house, now in a retirement flat.

8 as you do when the job takes you and then to be easier wrt facilities as a widow in later life. I can see another move in years to come, Daughters get on so well and will be living closer when the dgc have finished school. either s wales or the lake district. I loved both areas when I lived there and will go near where they go

Next time I will be sure to have good easy access to a train station

In the meantime, I do a bit of de-cluttering when I think of it and keep my house well maintained without spending much money on it. Most of my furniture is now light oak and modular, either ercol or Danish-type, all with a view to fitting into anywhere

14, but have stayed put here since 1987.

DanniRae Sat 10-Aug-24 11:47:57

3 moves before I was married and 54 since we married! grin

Athrawes Sat 10-Aug-24 11:58:41

8 times! Which is a lot for us. We are in a bigger house now and have my granddaughter and her partner living with us which I really enjoy. We've got family fairly close by so I'm not sure whether we'll get looked after in our home or in a care home when the time comes! I'd be quite happy to go to a local care home if I end up on my own

19 and I expect 2 more before we retire …..

Scribbles Sat 10-Aug-24 12:01:44

19, I think, with possibly one more to come. But I've a long way to go to match DanniRae's total. Wow, your belongings must be trained to leap into packing cases by themselves!

OldFrill Sat 10-Aug-24 12:16:05

35
Just sat and totted them up quickly, may have forgotten a couple. I've led a fairly nomadic lifestyle it seems.

Omaoma57 Sat 10-Aug-24 12:23:19

35 times and probably at least one more…daughter and then wife of a serving officer…

DanniRae Sat 10-Aug-24 12:28:55

3 moves before I was married and 54 since we married! grin

Oh dear! Meant to say 3 moves before we married and none since as we have lived in this house for 54 years!
I previewed my answer too .... I don't know what I was thinking blush

JamesandJon33 Sat 10-Aug-24 12:34:58

6 as a child, and six times when married

CountessFosco Sat 10-Aug-24 12:47:22

24 since marriage : 3 Continents, six countries.
Broadens the horizons somewhat.....
Changing the plugs each time is a challenge

Ladyripple Sat 10-Aug-24 12:59:34

Just 3 all within 5 miles now in the bungalow we had when first married, we won’t move again unless its to the loony bin, we travel a lot and never found a place nicer to live.

MissInterpreted Sat 10-Aug-24 17:48:20

Zero here. Still live in the same house I grew up in. Fourth generation of the family to live here.
